So just spitballing here, I heard capcom was broke, and that Sega recently bought Atlus. All I'm proposing is a buyout by Sega of Capcom, which would cost a ton of money I know, but seriously think about it. They could make Dead Rising, Street Fighter, Mega man, Castlevania, etc etc all console exclusives if they tried to develop hardware again. They'd also have Atlus, so there's the JRPG/RPG crowd coming for your console and all their old Sega IP's like Phantasy Star and Shining Force and so many more. I know hardware development is a money sink for multiple years costing millions and millions with no return if your console flops or does poorly, but hasn't Sega learned what not to do. I read their history of Sonic book and heard what the former CEO of Sega of America had to say about the Saturn and Dreamcast, they know what not to do. Probably will never happen but hey a man can dream can't he. I'd be in from day one. If they crowdfunded it I would donate in a heartbeat.

Castlevania is Konami not Capcom.

oh yea my bad, replace it with Ghost n Ghouls or whatever and a new marvel vs capcom etc etc. It'll never happen but man it would be awesome.

what if they crowdfunded the games for the new console, they have to have ideas for their older IP's, I know they said they'd let Atlus work on any of their old IP's. What if they just put up a bunch of different kickstarters for new games based on old IP's and let the gaming community vote with their dollars on what they'd want on a new console?

Huh, the meteorologist didn't predict a brewing shitstorm today.
Exactly. Why even do this, Mr. Popo? Why?

While I vehemently disagree with the first statement, I do think Sega has fallen too far to recapture what it once had. They don't have the talent or the marketing power anymore and even when they did they kind of sucked at the marketing part.

Sega's strength was in creating great arcade style games, which is still what they excel at, and their systems were great because they brought that excitement into the home. However video games have changed and "arcade at home" is not the mainstream desire anymore.

Us Sega die-hards need to let it go. Sega will never have a new console and honestly they don't need to anymore.

They have however been doing a great job of bringing their classic games to other platforms recently. If I can see them getting into any kind of hardware business outside of arcade machines it would be gaming-centric tablets or some Android based mini-platform like the Ouya.

Sega could release a new console and only be good as a 360, and I'll still pay good money for it.

Doubtful that it could happen, if only for one reason I think: Steam Machines. If the Wii U ends up dying out and Nintendo were to pull out, I do think there is still room for three consoles so long as they act as a media device as well and not a pure game console. In my case, I'm a Linux user so I never considered buying any of the XBox consoles, and bailed on my PS3 when Sony took away the Other OS option. So right now, I'm sitting out this console war altogether and am just content to play my old consoles. But, if Sega were to jump back in the fray, I'd be onboard from Day 1. This discussion kind of reminds me of this, just replace Family Guy with Sega:
Still, if the Wii U fails and SteamBoxes don't take off, it could be possible in another gen if some hardware maker wanted to partner with Sega and re-launch a console.
