Wii VC: Which game should I choose???

Post by glynnahab »

I'm having a dilemma, and I know most of you guys have good taste in gaming. I have exactly 800 Wii points left, and I'm looking at either SNES or Genesis.

I'm really leaning towards either Streets of Rage 2 - I've already played it and I know it would be worth it. But Beyond Oasis looks sweet too. Then I remember that I have never played any Phantasy Star game. I've also never played the Shining Force series. (I'm a little Sega deficient, as you can see.)

So far I have Super Metroid, Sonic 2, Gunstar Heroes, and Secret of Mana already downloaded - so those can be scratched off the list.

Any recommendations? Which one would you pick, and why? I'm simply unable to make a decision at the moment, and those Wii points are burning a hole in my (virtual) pocket.

Thanks in advance! :)

I guess I should have mentioned that I already own this game in cartridge form. But thanks for the suggestion regardless. It is a kickass game.

If you like RPG's then Phantasy Star is a good choice. If you like newer RPG's I'd go with PS 3 or 4 (if they're on there), but if you don't like RPG's so much then go with Streets of Rage.

There are actually a good amount of worthwhile games on the VC. Tough decision my man.

I can't remember how much it was but Lost Winds was stellar and is one of the only games that makes great use of the Wiimote. I'm not a fan of the Wii but a great game is a great game and I like to endorse greatness and innovation. Check out the video

Argh! Only have 800 Wii points. I've heard good things about it also, but I was craving some Mario Kart 64. Nostalgia always wins with me.

I dont know how much they cost
but if I was you, I will buy N64 title or a neo-geo for sure, or maybe wiiware
if you don't see anything you like though, and you insist on snes genesis

best thing i can advice you is to download them off as roms and check them out, if you see what you like buy them off vc. I think that is a good way to choose a game. They are only like 3 mb in size or something like that.

I would also suggest buying either a platformer(sonic, mario) or RPG, streets of rage is way too short I guess and its technology is not amusing to have replay value.

One amazing game is comic fighter or comics zone, something about comics for the genesis. I think this game is one of a kind with no other games similar to it. also gunstar heroes, but that game is short too, none the less great.

If you only have 800 points I would get Shining Force II it is very in depth and will take many hours to complete. It is also good in small chunks at a time. I think that would be the best buy for your money.

All of the options are good..but if you go with the shining force series go for
Shining Force 2 i found that it's easier to get into the sequel and don't worry the story doesn't relate to the first one.

And also that game got me into console rpg's in the first place so yeah it's good :D

edit

i really should start reading the whole thread before posting :D

I'd also recommend Shining Force II, since it is one of my favorite Genesis games. Phantasy Star 2 is good, but the biggest problem with it is that it is a very old RPG, and so can suffer at times from the gameplay. Shining Force II plays pretty modern. And, as mentioned, it's easy to play in chunks.
