black friday haul

Post by nickfil »

I'm curious if anyone had jumped on the buy 2 get 1 free deal that gamestop was running. It was only for used games which was a little bit of a bummer because there are a handful of games that i would love to play on the ps2 that i seem to only find new.

Here is what i picked up- plus 2 games i got from best buy.
Image

The turok and simpsons games came from best buy. 15 and 10. The rest were buy 2 get 1. They are pretty much all games that were hovering around 20ish dollars that i kinda wanted, but had been waiting for it to drop a little lower. I went today (Saturday) so maybe if i went earlier i could have gotten a few others that I either couldn't find or the instructions weren't in the box. Oh well. Maybe I'll hit up the 3rd gamestop in my area tomorrow and see if I can get some yakuza and persona 3 fes. Maybe another xbox controller.

I cracked simpsons, turok, and ghost squad already but none of the others. As a pretty big simpsons fan, i'm kinda in love with that game and glad i bought it new. Hopefully EA will make a sequel. It is a really beautiful game. Turok was ok. I played the demo and knew what i was getting into. The game's shooter mechanics are dripping with mediocrity, but hey... you get to shoot at dinosaurs. Thats fun. Ghost squad is pretty fantastic. I love light gun games and this one doesn't disappoint. Again- i hope that the wii comes out with more light gun games. It is the perfect platform for it. I played both jedi knight games on the PC back when i had one and wasn't so apple centric. No more pc- no more pc games. Though- i really loved both of those games and was glad i could get them for my collection at a decent price. Looking forward to another play through on the xbox sometime next year when the new games coming out slow down.

I'm a little disappointed i didn't buy Ghost Squad new though. You vote with your money after all. Does anyone know if gamestop reports sales on used stuff or do they just pocket money and move on? Like- if i bought a new copy would Sega get wind of the sale as opposed to buying a used copy and no one knows how it is selling? My impression is that the light gun genera is dying, and I'd like to do my part to keep it alive a little longer. Though- this goes ageist my thrifty gamer mentality.

SO- what about you? Pick up anything cool? Tis the season to do so!

Good haul. I just ended up with two more xbox s controllers - mainly since one of mine broke the last time we played gauntlet and I was going to go play more. Still two controllers in decent condition for $12, is hard to sniff at. For the record, Crimson Skies on an eight foot screen is slightly better than Propeller Arena (only slightly).

i was never that into dogfighting games. I played star fox command on the ds recently and as soon as it got a little hard i was completely done with it. It seemed like i couldn't get better- that the fights would pretty much be random. Sometimes i would win, other times i wouldn't.

Are crimson skys or propeller arena worth picking up? Would they be nice exceptions to my no flight sim rule? The reason i'm not so much into them is that i find it really difficult to get an enemy in my sights and hammer their health seeing as they can move in all directions. It seems like- you get hit and then move and hope to get the guy again. Chipping away.

This is good to hear. I recently bought it new (Wii version) from Target for $7.50 as a smaller gift for my 5 year old. I am curious - and a little wary - to see how it really is.

Got some good titles in there.

For your info: Sega is coming out with a new House of the Dead game for wii very soon. It's not a port of HotD4, it's a brand new game. Very cool. From the looks of things it's shaping up to be really excellent too.

It's called House of the Dead Overkill, and it tells the story of G's first mission as an AMS agent. I personally can't wait, as Ghost Squad and HotD 2&3 Return were amazing Wii light gun games.

You should definitely pick it up.

No More Heroes is cool in its own way, and Four Swords is fantastic with a couple buddies.

I've only played a few hours of it. I could see it getting a little repetitive at points later in the game, but so far like i said i love it. It'll be a nice gift for a new gamer like your 5 year old too- pretty easy controls. Usually only one or 2 buttons and the combat is SUPER easy. Part of it being so easy is that you have a computer AI that fights as well, and does a decent job. The game is more about the thrill of getting to walk around the simpson's world than heavy combat. I also love that it is genuinely funny. They take a lot of jabs at the video game industry. Stuff that gamers would get, but your average guy on the street wouldn't so it doesn't really make it into the show. The only reason i didn't go for the wii version was i wanted it all in nice sprawling HD.

I think the coolest thing I saw in that haul was The Red Star. I just love that game

I orderred God of War:Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core:Final Fantasy 7 from Amazon since they were both half off starting Black Friday. I got free shipping too since the order was over 25 bucks. Chains of Olympus was the real bargain as I see it everywhere for close to forty dollars(even used) and I snagged it new for twenty bucks.

I was really impressed by Amazon's sales. Great prices and you can get the stuff without leaving your house. They had a whole bunch of PSP games half off. I was tempted to buy more, but I'm happy with what I got and I'm already knee deep in PSP gaming as it is with Valkyrie Profile:Lenneth and Final Fantasy Tactics:War of the Lions taking up much of my time right now

also the cheapest at 8 dollars. I'm looking forward to it. Red Star was kinda a big deal when i was at the end of college. They were pushing the envelope with 3-d design incorperated into 2-d comic art and actually pulling it off. I met the creators and had a few drinks with them too- really nice guys. The colorist is a frequent poster on one of the comic forums i check out.

nice- i'm starting to get into the psp too. If you liked FF war of the lions you should check out Jeanne d'arc. As far as isometric RPG stuff- it is pretty fun. I also have that remake of the first star ocean.... but... i kinda... don't really get what the big deal is.

its cool that amazon had some good deals. If i was ever near a computer on friday i probably would've tried to pick up dead space but.... alas i was not.

Yeah, Jeanne d'arc gets a lot of recommendations so I plan on checking it out at some point. The PSP is sort of my thing right now. It's a lot like the Sega Saturn phase I went through last year, I'm just really enjoying everything the PSP has to offer right now and my interest in portable gaming as a whole has gone up as a result. I may actually get a Nintendo DS at some point, though it's the PSP in particular that has me impressed the most right now. Such a powerful, capable and versatile little machine

That's really cool getting to meet the guys behind The Red Star. I thought that game was underrated by gaming critics. In my opinion, it is a really polished action game and fun in that old school arcade game kind of way
