If you are not just looking at CCGs, and are ok with Living Card Games, I highly recommend Romance of the Nine Kingdoms. It is from a movie, but based on Legend of the Five Rings and released by AEG. It really is a boxed version of LOTFR.

Ah I missed this thread's existence until now somehow!

I am an avid boardgamer, though my playgroups recent taste has really limited my accrual of them.

I mainly play Mansions of Madness, Thunderstone, Battle Star Galactica, AD&D Legend of Drizzt, GoTs LCG, Arkham Horror, Last Night on Earth, Touch of Evil, Marvel Legendary and some good ol' fashioned Axis and Allies from time to time.

So sick of Dominion, Catan and Apples to Apples (and it's many spin-offs).

I also am formerly a huge CCG player, mainly MtG, but was big into Overpower, Star Trek TNG(decipher), Rage and Battletech.... for a loonnngggg time.

So little time between these things and VGs

I'm currently focusing on playing Nations and Glass Road. I own approximately 80 board games, and have another 20 or so that I am trying to trade or sell.

Someone bought my daughter Sorry for Christmas. The company has ruined the game. They added "fire" and "ice" cards to either speed up your pawns, or freeze an opponent's pawn. They lowered the number of pawns from four to three. They also eliminated the requirement of a "1" or "2" to leave start. We played it once and I couldn't wait for it to be over. It's sad, because I used to play the original version frequently with my adult friends and it was fun.

I played a game of Sorry! with some friends last month. It's a shame to hear that Hasbro has changed the game for the worse. If you want a more traditional game, try Parcheesi. The game Sorry! is based on the much older game "Pachisi" from India circa 500AD. Hasbro markets this game as "Parcheesi" in the United States and Canada.

I used to play Parcheesi with my grandmother when I was a little boy, and I loved it. Little did I know this game is older than chess.

The best version of Sorry is Sliders:

It is a multi-directional version of shuffleboard with a drop to the scoring field. Granted that might be because dexterity games are my favorite - I have two Carrom boards (an American and an Indian) and a very well played copy of Pitch Car/Carabande.

FOIL Falls Flat

I bought a 3M bookshelf game called FOIL from Goodwill for fifty cents. That was about forty-nine cents too much.

The packaging is beautiful. The outer box is crafted like a hardcover book with a vintage late '60s Illustration. Unfortunately, the outside of the box is where my praise ends.

When I found this game at the Goodwill, I was delighted to find the instructions and all the cards in flawless condition as if the game had only been played once, then left on a bookshelf for half a century. Now I know why. The mechanics of this game are fundamentally broken. I have tried to play this game with many different circles of friends. None of us can figure out the ambiguous instructions. It's clear that this is a word game where the players try to spell out short words using all the cards in hand. What's unclear is the basic gameplay. No one can tell when one hand ends and another hand begins. No one can tell whose turn it is. The rules for drawing new cards are so convoluted no one could be sure if we were obeying the rules or not. We always give up in frustration without understanding how to win the game.

It's a shame because I really like word games. I wanted to like FOIL, but it's simply unplayable. I wish 3M's game designers had worked as hard as the graphic designer who created the packaging.

FOIL Falls Flat

Foil is a word card game in which players draw and discard letter cards until one player can make words using all the cards in his or her hand. All players then shuffle the letters of words they have made and then have five minutes to unscramble the words of their opponents. Players score for words they have made, opponents' words unscrambled, and for forming words that no opponent unscrambles.

Ack, I have read the instructions. Suffice to say they don't work. The actual instruction booklet is about five pages long. I have read engrish stereo instructions that make more sense.

Yeah, I was hoping to find something where someone actually spelled out the instructions so folks could understand them, but didn't manage to find anything. That paragraph was the best I could do.
