The weapon In Gaiares lets you steal your enemies' weapons. I always loved that concept.

Zero Wing has the enemy stealing thing as well, and Macross Scrambled Valkyrie kinda-sorta.

I always loved that sort of thing.

Apparently, '90s shmups are all about stealing enemies weapons because that mechanic is also on display in Square's sublime 2.5D shmup, Einhander (PS1):
