Light or Dark for my game room?
Light or Dark for my game room?
I was trying to decide what theme to go for in my game room, its a winter project thing. Right now the wall is sky blue so I thought a Okami themed mural would work well, but I love Horror games like Silent Hill and Fatal Frame so that was on my mind as well. Steel Battalion is great to and I love Mechs so I was thinking about painting my walls like the inside of a giant Mech with steel plates and controls. I work in the heating field and have access to cool looking controls and gauges. These games are great but I don't think blending them would be a good idea. Maybe a half and half deal could work if done right, But I don't know its a small room. Does anyone have a idea? Should I go the easier Okami route or harder darker route of Steel Battalion or survival horror.

The real question is: Which idea would be the bigger chick magnet?

If you go the Steel Battalion route, buy a couple copies of the game ($50 at gamestop) and set them up in lan.
Honestly the Steel Battalion one sounds the coolest, but the Okami one would be the easiest. What furniture are you looking at using?

I have one controller and game now and the LAN idea sounds awesome. I have 2 recliners presently one black and one brown.fastbilly1 wrote:If you go the Steel Battalion route, buy a couple copies of the game ($50 at gamestop) and set them up in lan.

Definitely stick with one theme, especially if it's just one room. And even with just one theme, you can still fall into the trap of making the room look too busy. I've devoted my basement to entertaining, and it's extremely tempting to display all of my games, toys, posters, etc. But that would just make it look like a college dorm room.
Good luck! Post pictures when you get set up!

Typically game rooms don't do it for most chicks.dsheinem wrote:The real question is: Which idea would be the bigger chick magnet?
-I like the idea of an Okami room might be something different. I'm also a big fan of the Mechwarrior Series, and Metal Warriors for the SNES, but you would have to the Mech theme perfectly like you stated or it could end up being a utter disaster.

All I can really suggest is go with subtlety. Decor that beats you over the head is usually tiring after a few months.
If you think you might agree, try to create a motif that honors the essence of your favorite types of games, but doesn't go overboard. You don't have to have big cockpits painted on the walls to get the point across, just some industrial-military styling on the endtables or whatever would suffice.
Just a suggestion. Above all else make it the room YOU want. : ) Good luck, and post some pics when you're done.

The Mech theme sounds cool. The Fatal Frame theme would scare the hell out of me, depending on what you put on it.

My living room is a deep maroon, so I would say go with a darker-colored theme. Doesn't matter which one, but anything that absorbs light and brings your focus to the television has my vote.

Thanks for the suggestions I will post pics when I'm finished. I just picked up the paint today and I'm in the planning process now. It should be done by mid January to Febuary.
