I'm not sure of a list, but at the very least PAL Super Fantasy Zone works just fine in a US Genesis.

I tried out Kid Chameleon once too, it was not very fun. Stage was super long, I think I got lost in it.

Chiki Chiki Boys rocks! I played through the Genesis version recently and loved it. Great music, exemplary side-scrolling action, and large colorful sprites make it worth your time.

As for Kid Chameleon, I haven't played it in years so my memory of it is rather fuzzy. I remember the slipperiness but it definitely wasn't crappy.

I bought Kid Chameleon based on this "Defining Games" article. In retrospect, I should have emulated. I was disappointed by Kid Chameleon. As mentioned, the controls are slippery. This just doesn't work for a precision platformer.

Kid Chameleon is awful.

I picked up another game on my list, this time it was World of Illusion with Mickey and Donald.

I know this game has a 2p co-op mode. Is the 2 player game different to the 1 player?

If I remember correctly it mostly adds two player jump puzzles.

I think it's worth a play. The game isn't anything special, but it is one of those early Genesis games when SEGA was throwing as much 'tude in games as possible.

Sorry, I'm not seeing this alleged 'slipperiness' at all. The controls are perfectly serviceable, and I don't recall any parts of the game demanding any high degree of precision save for Bloody Swamp and The Final Marathon.

As far as the length of it goes, it's a bit longer than most 2D platformers, sure. Though I don't see why that's any reason to write it off. Is 90 minutes really overdoing it for this type of game?

Difficulty-wise it's no walk in the park(which may be the real reason why some dislike it so much), but it's certainly not unreasonable. Smart use of your diamond powers is more than enough to compensate for what the game throws at you. In particular, Iron Knight's ability to give you 4 extra hit points is borderline game-breaking, though it's pretty much mandatory if you're going for a no death run. Besides, some levels in the last quarter of the game will still pose a serious threat, no matter how much HP you have.

All in all Kid Chameleon is a pretty respectable Mario clone. It might be lacking in the graphics and music departments, but the challenge is high, the controls are solid, the power-up system is well implemented, and the multiple routes lend it tremendous replay value. Not the best platformer on the Genesis by any stretch, but much better than some in this thread would have you believe.


The controls are being described as slippery because they are. It's hard to get your character to do exactly what you want because the controls are too sensitive.

The game has over 100 levels, very few of which are memorable. The average player is not going to be beating this game in 90 minutes.

The challenge is there certainly, but I disagree that that is why people are writing it off. I don't shy away from a tough game - I've beaten quite a few infamously 'hard' games, including Ninja Gaiden and Ecco the Dolphin. I felt the challenge in Kid Chameleon was down to poor design rather than actual well designed challenges.

I stand by my thoughts on this one. All 'tude, not much else to offer :lol:

I remember as a kid seeing the Kid Chameleon character in his leather jacket and sporting sunglasses while riding his skate board and thinking: "I wish I was that cool." :lol:
