If you want a basic rundown, read this: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 44&t=36353s1rweeze wrote:I admit I'm not too familiar with those, so thanks for pointing that outZiggy587 wrote:When you got to talking about translated SFC games, I would have mentioned flash carts as an option along side emulation and reproductions. I was asked countless times in PMs, so I just typed it up there so I wouldn't have to type that all over and over. That's just the basic info there, but enough to get the idea and basic features of all the carts.
Repros seem great as a way to play games on real hardware. But once you realize that real carts are being sacrificed to make these repros, they kinda lose their appeal in my book. Flash carts allow you to play the games on real hardware just as well as a repro would, but you (usually) don't have to kill a real game to do it. They're also easily updated by the end user, where repros are not. Example: If a new version of a translation patch or hack becomes available, you're able to update to the new version on a flash cart easily. And if you consider the cost, 1-3 SNES repros will buy you a flash cart that will allow you to play something like 95% of the SNES library.

You should make a video about Donkey Kong Country 3. Why people call it bad compared with the other games in the series (it's my personal favorite, though I accept that 2 is better designed, though it buffles me how some people think 1 is better than 3)

Whoa, well done dude. That's a ton of info. I'll make sure to include and link this in the next SFC video I do. Thanks a ton!Ziggy587 wrote:If you want a basic rundown, read this: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 44&t=36353s1rweeze wrote:I admit I'm not too familiar with those, so thanks for pointing that outZiggy587 wrote:When you got to talking about translated SFC games, I would have mentioned flash carts as an option along side emulation and reproductions. Added to the list. Full disclosure: I didn't like it as much the same reasons I didn't like Mega Man X3 -- it's certainly not BAD, but there was an abrupt change in the level design that took the game down a notch from elite to just pretty good.ZeroAX wrote:You should make a video about Donkey Kong Country 3. You know I only suggested it cause I saw that picture of your collection and I noticed you don't have it, and that's a crime against platformers.s1rweeze wrote: Added to the list. Re: SNESdrunk reviews
Just caught up watching these videos (which are great, nice job SNESdrunk) and I wanted to add more about Cybernator because it's part of one of my favorite series.Ack wrote:I also adore Cybernator but agree that the story presentation isn't particularly handled well. That said, considering it's part of a series that spans 5 games, I don't mind that there is a story, though I realize that the US version is likely butchered.s1rweeze wrote:Monday, December 9, 2013 - Cybernator
Anyway, do you do requests?
To put it short, yes the story is completely butchered and character portraits were removed for no particular reason as well as entire story sequences (for reasons that wouldn't get past 90's Nintendo censorship). Also if I recall the action does not usually stop in the Japanese version when there's text on the screen. There is a translation of Assault Suits Valken floating around out there if you wanted to experience the game the way it's supposed to be.
Also a pet peeve of mine is the game is not a Konami game. It was developed by NCS/Masaya (known also for Langrisser, Gynoug, Macross 2036 and hilariously Cho Aniki). Konami only hacked it up and published it in the west. They also published the similar Lucas Arts game, Metal Warriors, which lead a lot of people to incorrectly assume it was a sequel though it has nothing to do with the Assault Suits series.
I'd like to see your thoughts on Metal Warriors in comparison to Cybernator honestly, I think it fixes some of the problems you had with Cybernator, but at the same time takes away some of the things you really liked about Cybernator.
The same team as Valken/Cybernator went on to make Front Mission: Gun Hazard, which is basically Assault Suits with RPG elements, also a very cool game. Check out the translation if you ever get that flash cart.

Cool. Just do me a favor? Give me a heads up when you're doing your next SFC video.s1rweeze wrote:Whoa, well done dude. That's a ton of info. I'll make sure to include and link this in the next SFC video I do. Thanks a ton!
I've been meaning to, for the longest time, clean up that post. I basically just typed it out in a hurry one day. I'd like to organize it better, word it better, include more info, etc. Also, some of the info has become slightly outdated. I'll try and do it regardless, but if you give me a date that your video will be done, it'll light a fire under my ass.

Thanks for watching! Actually I was planning on doing Metal Warriors somewhere down the line -- I like the weapons and gameplay more in MW, and the cutscenes remind me of Ninja Gaiden, they're a really nice touch. Wayyy better execution there than in Cybernator.Gunstar Green wrote:Just caught up watching these videos (which are great, nice job SNESdrunk) and I wanted to add more about Cybernator because it's part of one of my favorite series.Ack wrote:I also adore Cybernator but agree that the story presentation isn't particularly handled well.
