But let us commence! Time to play one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

Re: Together RPG - SRPG - Ogre Battle MotBQ - 1/11/14 -> 3/1
I shall begin either later this month or beginning of Feb.
Re: Together RPG - SRPG - Ogre Battle MotBQ - 1/11/14 -> 3/1
I'll be popping the Saturn version in at some point within the next few days. I've been wanting to dive into this game for a while, and I'm excited to actually do so.

I totally bought that album because of this game. The guys at Quest must've been rabid Queen fans.MrPopo wrote:Some music to get you in the mood:
I absolutely love this game though. Ironically, I've never beaten it. I mostly enjoy building an army to my liking, and somewhere along the line I realize that I don't have the time to invest in the increasing map sizes.
Seriously, more than most Strat/RPGs, Ogre Battle destroys entire nights of sleep for me. So if I have the inclination to play, I take care to do so only when I have time to burn.
May play sometime in the near future, but probably will be on a handheld, where I can ration my doses easier.
Incoming aimless segment of Gamer Geek ramblings:
-I generally like the SNES version better, but given emulation quirks, I put the PS1 version on my PSP.
-The SNES version wasn't too bad emulated on the DS either, but it has some issues that would turn off some people (hit points in battle must be refreshed manually, and some graphic instability). Flow of the game was better than emulated SNES version on PSP though.
-I'm still lamenting the loss of my Dingoo, which was able to emulate the SNES game near flawlessly. I think that's why I quit playing last time.
-I own a complete SNES copy (yes, it cost me), A mostly complete PS1 version, game+instructions of Ogre Battle 64, and even the NGPC game. Also own 2 guides for March of the Black Queen and one for the N64 game. Semi-obsessed with the series.
-Ogre Battle is responsible for my mild fascination with Tarot cards, but don't own any.
Love the music in this game, especially "Wall of Defense/Impregnable Defense".
or
-I think I may have a sprite fetish of some kind, do in part to this game.
-This is one of 3 greatest strategy games in my gaming history (others being Master of Magic, and Shining Force)
-In my 1st play of this game, I was able to create a Princess and a Vampire very early on, which bugged the hell out of my friend who was late in the game and very Princess-less and Vampire-less.
-Reputation meter can kiss my #*$.
-My friend once claimed that he once created the starting hero with 4 attack turns (and didn't save, of course). I think he might have been intoxicated.
-Next time I play, I really need to limit my army closer to 10 parties. Usually I have a hard time getting it under 20.
-Gryphons/Cockatrices are my favorite big units.
-Ninjas are awesome for making an offensive gesture for their back row attacks.
-Umm, I love this game.
That's all for now...
...just another lost soul...

The whole series is not only named after Queen's Ogre Battle, but each game and parts in the game is also named after Queen songs. Person of Lordly Calibur unfortunately is the exception, and what a horrible title it is.nightrnr wrote:MrPopo wrote:I totally bought that album because of this game. Haha very nice nightrnr
I used to rent this game and my friend and I would pump hours on end into it during a weekend and we would beat it before it was due back, so probably 10-12 hour days. There is a distinct difficulty curve that buildsnand kind ofnsmooths out at the end.
I have a collecting obsession with this series as well.
-complete SNES, SFC, J-Sat, and PS1 copies, complete 64 copy, guides for both (even though 64 guide sucks). I also have the cib GBA Tactics, PS1 Tactics, J-Sat Tactics, PSP and the CE Euro PSP copy lol. it is kind of sickening huh?
I also really only know of Tarot cards from Ogre Battle. I knew what they were, but not any of the individual cards. I actually have a set that came with the PSP pre-order.
I love some of the tracks from Ogre Battle re-done on the PSP Tactics. The orchestral versions sound great.
The 3 attacks in the front is the best main general, there is no 4, so yeah mustve been drunk.
I got lucky once and had 3 princesses by mid game, and 2-3 liches. Some were story, some were just lucky randoms. Problem was, it made the game ridiculously easy.
I also max out the number of units. The micromanaging of the characters and units is one of the biggest draws to me. I kind of end up stressing and nitpicking over them a bit too much.

It is also fun for a bit to make super ridiculous unit. I think the most powerful is princess with 2 liches in back and 2 dragoon/sky knights in front. it breaks the game as I dont think I ever actually exhausted all the unit's attacks before wiping out the enemy unit.
