DSi not backwards compatible at all?
I just read somewhere that the DSi will not be backwards compatible with anything. That means if you want to play your GBA and DS games you must keep your old DS. The only way to play the old games is to download them. Now that pisses me off.
Re: DSi not backwards compatible at all?
Any source to back up this outrageous claim?

While I was in Akihabara I was told at Super Potato that it is compatible with DS games, But not GBA games. If what you say is true then Nintendo will lose a lot of money.
Re: DSi not backwards compatible at all?
It's obviously bunkum. Nintendo would never do that.
The lack of GBA slot does mean incompatibility with a few DS games and the loss of features on some other games.

Re: DSi not backwards compatible at all?
The confusion is coming from the fact that the DSi can't play GBA games due to its lack of a GBA slot. However it plays every single piece of DS software, with the exclusion of games that use the GBA slot to work, like Guitar Hero.
Furthering the rumors is the fact that the DSi software that is sold through the DSi Online Shop (think Wii Ware) is region exclusive. So when Sega makes a Wonderboy DSi game for distribution on Nintendo's Web-based DSiware store only Japanese people will be able to buy it. Until, that is, it is made available to the US/EU DSi Online shop.
So BC is a yes to every game except GBA, and region free gaming is a yes except for downloadable games.

i really do not like what nintendo is doing and think this will be a release that is similar to what happened to the gba micro. i mean i was upset to find out with the original ds that they cant play GBC or GB games but i got over it. but loseing my gba port for a camra? i dont think i can do it. im planin on getting a ds lite and thats it. i really dont think nintendo should wast their time.

If you want to play GBA then spend 10 dollars on a GBA. DSi is a smaller, better DS. It's not a smaller, better GBA.
People can't expect the company to invest in the past forever. While an SNES slot on the wii would be cool, let's just all realize that it's unrealistic and move on.

Actually I think it would be more like a "better" SNES that only played games with the FX chip.thejamessea wrote:If you want to play GBA then spend 10 dollars on a GBA. DSi is a smaller, better DS. It's not a smaller, better GBA.

Re: DSi not backwards compatible at all?
The reason why DSi can't play GBA games is because in order to make it thinner, they had to take out that slot 2.
Just if you wondering about DSi features,
the screen was made bigger at 3.25 inches
Improved sound quality, camera, a SD memory card slot and a built-in browser.
But the battery life compared to the DSlite is half. Where the DSlite's battery life is 7-8 hours, DSi is 4-5 hours.
It's also region locked. (like many of your old platform consoles~)
