Black Label or Raiden Fighters

Post by Radiant Hero »

I only have enough cash for one game this holiday. It is a tie between Dodonpachi Black Label and Raiden Fighters Aces. I just cant' decide! What do you think is a wiser purchase?
I don't play games, I experience them.

DoDonPachi Daioujou Black Label Extra, along with Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi Extra, are going to be the biggest shoot 'em ups released on the Xbox 360. The hardcore have anticipated the arrival of both of these, especially Ketsui, since it will finally be released in an affordable form.

Since I don't own either, I can suggest that you can buy Raiden Fighter Aces in the meantime and enjoy it immensely. You can start playing sooner and save up the money for DDP in the meantime. It's great old-school action - though be warned, the latest patch causes freezing in Raiden Aces 2!

If you wish to stick to the notion of one purchase being wiser than the other, I'd go with DoDonPachi. More collectible and likely more fun! The leaderboards will be furious upon release...

i dont know what advice to give you but there are these options.
raiden fighters1,2 and jet also viper phase1 on mame.
dodonpachi dai ja dou on ps2(also includes death label).
i already have the ps2 version and from what i have seen there is no point in getting the 360 version seeing as the ps2 port is arcade perfect and you get black label thrown in as well.(just my 2cents.)

Obviously we don't yet know the quality of the DDPDOJBLEX port, and also you will know your own preferences better than us.

Try the first two Raiden Fighters games on MAME (the third is not perfectly emulated).

Although I'm a Cave fan AND I believe getting the 360 version of DDP is worth having even if you have the earlier attempt at porting it, I will suggest Aces. It includes a fantastic amount of options and they seem to have made a truly wonderful package with care and attention.

But if DOJ is more your style, even a bare bones port of it will give you more enjoyment.

Actually, I would say you should consider Death Smiles. A port made by Cave themselves is bound to be something special.

As much as I love cave, I'm leaning toward suggesting RF, that is if you like them, the package is a fantastic value and offers tons and tons of replay, also to me at least RF scoring system is more interesting and less rigid then DDP, which is ridiculously anal(though I still enjoy it a lot). From a purely 1 game standpoint RF wins on value, that said save up and buy DOJ when you get a chance if you haven't played it and are a cave fan.
