How's Your Sega MegaDrive/Genesis Gaming Going On?

That's pretty neat. I get a little too excited when I discover a new piece of Genesis hardware I didn't already know about.

You know I wrote this in a thread before but the other thread like this is in the 50+ pages. The genesis never gets any love lol. I had the system multiple times and i loved the genesis. Its the cheaper route to 16 bit gaming. It doesn't have as good graphics as the snes but it's still a great machine. I always told people if you like rpg's get a snes. I f you like arcade games get the genesis. Its sad that even my retro store that I go to if you look at the glass case where they keep the over 10.00 games the snes is a full shelf where as the snes has only about 15 games. It sucks no one cares for the genesis. I always thought that the konami games were great

Is there something different about the JP 6-button controller vs the US one?

The Japanese pads have shorter cords and they're a little bit smaller.

The notable difference is that the wings don't jut out from the button areas as far (thus, don't dig into my hands as much) like so:





Also, the A, B, X and Y buttons on six-button Sega game pads are laid out in a diamond pattern—
For that matter, so are the C, B, Y and Z buttons.


I just hate Nintendo d-pads. They're straight ass for diagonal direction. Better on the N64 and Wii, but small consolation when all of the others are (subjectively) worse than Sony/Microsoft d-pads. Otherwise, the SNES controller is comfortable, and the face buttons feel fine.

If you like piano melodies and church organs, get a SNES. If you like bass guitar and snare drums, get the Genesis.

There's just not much to talk about because we already know the Genesis is the best!

Though it's my favorite console and my largest collection, I wasn't about to complain about how cheap it was to collect for.

I can think of a lot of reasons for why the Genesis is not as popular as the SNES in retrospect even though they were neck and neck in many regions back in their day.

The big one is that Nintendo is still in the hardware industry and still making new installments in their famous franchises. When new people want to discover retro games they go with what's familiar to them so more often than not, it's Nintendo. Nintendo's old consoles are full of recognizable and safe classics while the Genesis is full of niche and obscure titles.

And if you're generally not into old action and arcade games you're not going to like much of the Genesis library at all outside of the RPGs. Although I always felt that Shining Force II in particular deserves to be held up with the best the SNES has to offer in the genre.

The Mega Drive was basically the console I grew up with, yet I've noticed that I've never really done much collecting on it - over 90% of the games I own on the system I've had since I was a kid.

So I've decided to pick up a few games that have been on my wants list for the console for a while so that the system gets a little more love.

I picked up Chiki Chiki Boys from eBay yesterday, and some other games I'm lookign at getting include:

Alisia Dragoon
Rocket Knight Adventures
Sonic 3
ToeJam and Earl
Soleil
Wonder Boy in Monster World
Gunstar Heroes (probably as part of Classics Collection - Gunstar, Flicky, Alex Kidd and Altered Beast)

I'm also looking at the Castlevania and Probotector (Contra) games for the system, but they seem pricy so we'll see.

Are there any must haves not on my list or my backlog that you guys think I should pick up?
