My two long ass unorganized pennies:
I love fighting games, SF in particular, and trying to get better at them. Having these fight nights gives me a time to focus on playing fighters, because my other gaming time often gets consumed with things from my ridiculous backlog. And playing with folks from the forum here and the regular group up in Buffalo adds a sense of familiarity/scene that I don't have/haven't investigated in my area.
I really like what cha's doing with the stream and the organization because it gives it a classier feel than just "hay doods let's play some vidya lol!" The stream is great, because I know if other games besides the ones I have/play are going on, I can still watch folks I somewhat recognize play and talk about it.
The chat aspect is crucial; being able to communicate with each other while it's going on brings it closer to feeling more like an offline meetup. I'd love to figure out how to make the damn thing work on my tablet so I can play and chat at the same time, since I have no headset, PSN text chat is donkey nuts, and I play through my setup where my PC is so I can't use both simultaneously. (halp plz?)
I'm liking the idea of giving us more info about your guys, cha. Oddly enough, as it stands now (keeping in mind this has only been going on a few weeks and I'm still basically a n00b here too) I feel like I'm more familiar with the styles of cha's crew than any of the RB members. And I think that if I can get comfortable with them in this short amount of time, anybody who plays with that group can easily pick up on their styles as well. (unless you got that Drake mentality)
Everybody up there seems really cool (except Dan fuck that guy lol j/k all love) and has different skill levels, which adds to the variety of the evening. Plus, it widens up the character selection base, and that allows me a chance at learning different matchups more easily than just hoping to get in a good endless sesh with randos online.
I've also found the critiques/advice helpful (such as that from cha and Noonie) in learning what to work on. Just because this is casual doesn't mean you can't try and level up a bit at the same time.
Unlike those of us (i.e., me) who don't have a ton of other stuff going on, it's completely understandable that REAL LIFE (and/or time zone) complicates things for a lot of folks here. Starting maybe an hour earlier could help with that. It's cool that these things go all night though, and I feel like that gives folks a chance to hop in whenever. As dsh said, picking strictly one game per evening might also solidify that for people too, even though that's kinda the way it's turned out so far anyway. If people know that say, SF4 is running from 7:30 ET til we all pass out, then it might be easier to accommodate time in their schedules rather than SF4 for an hour, 3S for an hour, HDR for an hour, and so on.
Re: EvilRyu2099, I know he had mentioned to me in stream chat that he's more of a KOF/anime player, so the SF focus may be keeping him away. No words in mouth though, just speculating. I know KOF on PSN ain't gonna work, so maybe trying to work in some BB:LOLWTFBBQ or P4A or something would help.
I think it's been going fairly well so far (basically because it's still happening and cha isn't burnt out yet). As previously stated, I don't think there's going to be a 50-man turnout from the forums just due to the fact that this is a retro forum. I doubt we're gonna get any Yie Ar going anytime soon, so I reckon folks are just gonna have to play the new stuff and like it, dammit.
Tournament=good idea, yes. Maybe instead of a money payout, something retrogaming-related?
As I've mentioned before, I will play (and suck at) whatever. I've got a sweaty mass of fighters already though, so I doubt I'm gonna go buy some new ones (although that free Tekken Revolution sounds interesting). Regardless, I'll participate by watching and getting my monster on if we're playing something I don't have because I love y'all.

I agree 100% with this.. That's what most general gaming forums do atleast..noiseredux wrote: I kind of think it would make more sense to just have a general Fighting Game Discussion thread rather than muddling up what is intended to be a thread for organizing dudes to play new games together online. Just my 2 cents.

See the thing is.. If I'm going to learn a fighter and play on stream, I'll try to get on PandaXGaming, theBrett or the other streams that have an 24/7 open lobby.. I'm just curious because you kept saying your focus is playing a fighter semi seriously and improving.. There are people in your and my category on those streams all the time so what kept you from going to those? To me this is just a friendly gathering of gamers and retro enthusiasts.. I don't see why a stream is necessary.. Usually a stream of a fighter is more a focus on how to improve on said fighter and getting people of all skillsets involved to help one another..

IDK if you were talking to me here, but isn't 360 the standard for a lot of streams? I don't and won't pay for Xbox Live, so that kind of rules those out for me. I haven't fully investigated whether there are PSN streams, so I don't have a whole lot of knowledge re: that subject.EvilRyu2099 wrote:See the thing is.. I mean, the whole stream thing isn't really necessary when you boil it down, but I think it adds another fun aspect to the fight nights. And I don't think the idea that this is a friendly gathering (which it is) and the notion of getting folks of all skillsets involved to help each other are mutually exclusive.

Exactly.. Why not just shoot the shit on psn Chat while playing.. Also is there any reason all the Buffalo peeps have to play on a shared account? Re: Racketeer Weekly Fight Nights: Resurrection?
TSTR- your long post, i wish there was a thumbs up button man. I felt a lot of your observations were spot on, especially about Dan, fuck that guy
After playing I will try and give you a more detailed account of how I felt things went for you after the sessions, if you want that type of run down to be made public in this thread. You seem like a guy that is positive about a lot of things, so I can't see it bothering you if I post up constructive criticism on your play.
Evil Ryu- I think the real answer is, why not have a stream?
Firstly, I didn't purport this stream as anything other than just an available option to me and something fun to add to this night. Not to be compared with other FG streams focused on the 24/7 training aspect of 1 or 2 games.
Secondly, why would it be any better or more fun to practice with complete strangers on a complete stranger's stream, seeing chat from a bunch of stream monsters giving out random advice if and when they feel like it?... When you can play vs people you know from here or new guys you can get to know on a regular basis (Buffalocals). Which is the purpose of all this, a small contained audience having fun and if they so choose- seeking improvement also. There is no reason you can't have both in the name of casuals...
@ the idea of using their own PSN ids- The Buffalo peeps do join online when they can't make it out that night. The "community account" was made so we have one profile across all games to play live onsite from, I don't know how you'd propose we do it any other way? Can't have multiple PSN ids logged in on the same machine (that I know of), and having more stations set up off camera and elsewhere in the facility...is kinda pointless, I'd just have em stay home.
I already stated I will post info about the Buffalo players joining us both before and after in case you have questions for any of them or wanna get a salty runback 1v1 at a later time. It is something I just haven't gotten around to yet.
PSN chat is impossible to have while we are playing in a continuous lobby, luckily most games that aren't named street fighter have text chat in lobby, so that will suffice I hope.
Most importantly is that this is also nice for a lot of my locals that play exclusively offline and hate online or have shitty internet. They can come out and chill with friends and make new ones through the RB community and vice versa. I call that a win.
Keep the suggestions rolling, the more I get- the quicker I can get this thing improved and more accessible.
I know and realize I cannot please everyone, but there is not reason not to try. That is all I am attempting.

Re: Racketeer Weekly Fight Nights: Resurrection?
But what is wrong with having them come on as individuals users and playing from their PS3s and you playing from your house as well? I'm not trying to start anything but I think it was a bit off-putting to have a shared account at one place.. It's hard to get to know who's playing even though I understand you don't mind explaining that on your stream..
And finally online is still online.. Most people will consider it to be in the same category as a peaceful jay which is cool.. I met a lot of people on those chats and got a lot better playing against those people.. So if more people dive in that's awesome.. I'm just stating that a lot of the racket members don't really know anyone on stream.. So other then you, they ARE strangers.. I think the better approach would be to get to meet all these Buffalo monsters individually!

Re: Racketeer Weekly Fight Nights: Resurrection?
Just keep an on on this thread in the upcoming days man, I will make sure you guys know the locals involved and will coheres a few to start posting here also. I will have their names, ids and a min-bio for everyone who has played, both locals and RB members. I will post the roster of who is showing before we play each night and it will be swag as fuck, just you watch
Again though, these guys enjoy coming out to hang out in one central location, it's what we normally do. They like playing on stream and don't mind the single account. There is not so many of us that you will lose track of who is playing! Only 3-5 show a night and I don't plan on increasing that number.

voted for SSFIV and SF3S. I'd gladly pick up TTT2 if it gets more votes.
I'd like to see Vampire Resurrection get some play. SFxT is cool too, i'd grab that again if there were support.
