Well, if you're looking at a career in animal medicine, do the volunteer work. It will serve as an excellent example of the kinds of things you'll see if you end up seeking it out as your profession. And yes, you will most likely see some heartbreaking things, though that's also highly likely if you work at the police department. Just understand that there are reasons why doctors(particularly surgeons), vets, and police all have higher average instances of alcoholism than other professions.oxymoron wrote:Animal medicine is one of a few career paths I'm contemplating pursuing so I guess working at the shelter could give benefits beyond just completing my hours. I just I don't have to be around when they put them down. I can't imagine what it's like for kids in Japan to volunteer at a shelter.Ack wrote: It's not as bad as you think. Paperwork can get tedious, but you'll learn to appreciate police work and understand what all really goes into it. As for the animal shelter, expect to spend a lot of time cleaning up shit. I've had several friends work in them, and they can be grueling, physically and emotionally.
As for the police, I might test the waters and do 5 hours (the minimum) but pencil pushing isn't really my strong front.

Should be one of the easiest languages for you to learn. English is Germanic in origin.SamuraiMegas wrote:German is hard.
For example, in this video, Hitler is saying "No" over and over. Not so hard, is it?Ack wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MLry6Cn_D4SamuraiMegas wrote:German is hard.

Take Latin, or Ancient Greek if you're up to the challenge.

The actual structure of the lenguage is based on Latin and declinations and genders are somewhat complex. It shouldn't be as difficult for English speakers as a Romance language, though.Stark wrote:Should be one of the easiest languages for you to learn. English is Germanic in origin.

I'm with Luke, take Spanish. It'll be of much more use than German, French, Arabic, etc. Especially if you live in the western states.
