For me, some games didn't work well with the "Genesis Style". The Street Fighter series is the first to come to mind. It felt off.Gunstar Green wrote:Yes, there's a specific flavor to a lot of Genesis games that's hard to describe to someone who wouldn't get what you mean. It's true of the grid-style box era titles especially.
I'm not knocking the later games but I feel like the Genesis lost something in its later years as it started trying too hard to be the SNES.

I dunno I often prefer the genesis versions of games. Like zombies ate my neighbors, sunset riders, ys 3, and thunderforce 3. The music is just far superior imo.

Re: How's Your Sega MegaDrive/Genesis Gaming Going On?
I'll give you Thunderforce III, but no can do on Sunset Riders and especially not on Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Some games work better for the Genesis, but ZAMN is not one. It's a cheap port. It sounds inferior, over 1/5 of the screen is taken up by a black bar which then makes everything else look smaller. It doesn't control any better as far as I can tell.

I will forever prefer Hyperstone Heist over the SNES port of Turtles in Time.

Given the choice between Genesis vs. SNES ports, I almost always choose SNES. A lot of that has to do with the controls - nothing beats the SNES controller in my eyes.
I play Sega Genesis mainly for the amazing exclusives.

The only sports game I'd pick snes > Genesis would be Madden '94.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Given the choice between Genesis vs. SNES ports, I almost always choose SNES. A lot of that has to do with the controls - nothing beats the SNES controller in my eyes.

Oh, and the snes sucks and you suck for liking it.

Is there something different about the JP 6-button controller vs the US one?pierrot wrote:Fixed that for [me].BoneSnapDeez wrote:Given the choice between Genesis vs. SNES ports, I almost always choose [Genesis]. For the most part, I prefer SNES ports. There are exceptions of course (Samurai Showdown, for example). But on the majority of them SNES ports have better soundtracks, I prefer the SNES controller, and often times even a little better looking graphics.
