Chronicle. A friend has been bugging me to watch it for a while and I finally gave in.

I was bored with the film for the first 20-30 minutes and strongly disliked the obnoxious teen main characters, but once they gained their powers the film took off. Excellent film and easily one of the best "super hero" movies that I've seen.

The Wolverine (2013) Extended Cut

I've yet to read the comics this film was loosely based upon, but I couldn't have enjoyed my viewing more. It was refreshing to see such a maturely handled Marvel-flick, and I'm disappointed I didn't take it upon myself to see this in theaters. The film is easily now in my top 3 movies of 2013 (along with Pacific Rim, and Spring Breakers).

The Wolverine is a big budget Yakuza film starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine clawing through numerous baddies armed with samurai swords, and automatic weapons. To say the least, it's an action-packed treat - especially if you're a fan of the previous X-Men movies. The fights are clever and expertly choreographed, the occasional jokes deliver ten-fold, and the film isn't afraid to place its tongue firmly in its cheek when necessary. Many moments had me exclaiming, "damn!" or "oh shit!" throughout. This movie is badass.

Now I just have to seek out a trade paperback to see how the source material compares. The post-credits tease also got me immensely ecited for Days of Future Past. I'll be there day one.

Had a friend visiting and we went to go see Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. It was all right. Fairly predictable, but it did have a couple of good jump scares in it.

Then we went back to a friends house, scanned through his Netflix and chose MST3k: Devil Fish. We were rolling by the end of it. The boys were in top form for that episode.

ET. Haven't sat down and watched it since I was a kid, and this was the wife's first time doing so. With a pizza and a coke, felt like old times. Unfortunately, I think Netflix sent us the digitally "enhanced" version, as several times ET felt like CGI, and it threw off the experience.

The boys extended laughing at the incredibly lame joke at the end of that movie had me in stitches. It was one of those sequences that drags on so long that it is funny, then not funny, then really, really funny (similar to the extended punch dancing/falling sequence in Hot Rod...Noise will know what I'm talking about.)

Got back from The Hobbit 2: More Hobbitier. Better pace than the first, but some of the dwarves have no lines and there are fewer character interactions. A lot of action. Legolas looks older than his dad and they're overdoing the whole Arkenstone is Thorin's One ring bit. The worst part is the ending. It's like a TV show ending for a mid-season break. There's no resolution , everything is up in the air.
Before you jump in say "well of course it doesn't", remember that Two Towers and Empire wrapped up the events and story arcs for those films, in those films. Hobbit 2 just stops, like that shitty Golden Compass film and puts out its hand expecting payment for the next installment. It's just rude.

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (2009)

This movie is a total dud. Bland writing, lame fight scenes and digital effects which oddly fare even worse than those in T2: Judgement Day, which came out 18 years prior. I can't really think of much that I enjoyed, and holy crap did they mess up Deadpool!

After being super impressed with last year's The Wolverine, this was a terrible letdown.

Though not quite as charming as the original, it's still a cute and fun movie that I enjoyed and certainly a worthy sequel. It was driving me nuts not having seen this yet, as the company I work for was doing a joint ad campaign with the movie when it debuted so I was constantly seeing or hearing about it at work and seeing TV commercials featuring Gru's minions and our company mascot

I swear, all that laughing coupled with the line "Oh God, it's starting over!" almost killed me. I think I might have pulled a muscle.
