That is not appropriate lubricant. You should be using lithium or synthetic grease for plastic gears.
I used vegetable oil while lubricating gears in my oXbox, and it's run the past four years with no issues.

 Good that is working, but I think cooking oil tends to get gummy overtime. Where is Luke!?

Hmmm, never knew you could lubricate the gears yourself to be more silent. Mine is pretty loud. Is there a tutorial on here that shows you how to do it?

He should be using Arbequina extra virgin olive oil from Chile. A tablespoon should be enough to lubricate any Dreamcast or oXbox. I also use it in my chicken tandoori recipe and it's great on oatmeal.

Well damn, why am I bothering with the right kind of grease that definitely won't harm the gears or attract insects. I'll just scrape some shit off my stove next time.

Hair gel residue works pretty good too.

Just about through with Shenmue and I'm somewhat glad :P. Game has it's moments but the harbor is by far one of the most boring spaces in the game. The story is crawling along like a snail with one event per day :P. What I would give for an option to fast forward the day.

Was planning to go straight into Shenmue II but I think after this I will take a break and play the Yakuza series.

Shenmue 2's story is much more action packed, streamlined and diverse. They also added an option to skip time at certain points so that you don't have to wait for the next scene. I still prefer Shenmue 1 for the impact it had on me (and possibly nostalgic reasons), but objectively speaking Shenmue 2 improved on the first game in nearly every way imaginable. I think you should still give it a try.
