So I'm considering getting a GPS unit for my parents for Christmas.
Modern units are looking quite nice, but I'm not really sure which features are most important.
What should I be sure to look for? Do certain models recognize voice commands instead of keying in locations? do those features work well?
Help point me in the right direction please
I use a garmin etrex, but i use it for hiking more than driving. i just bought my girlfriend a magellen 3225, on sale for 79 on tiger direct. all gps are very similar: touch screen, voice commands, updatable maps. The only thing you will get for by paying more will be newer maps and bluetooth connectivity. id say just go to cnet and find one that looks best!

All manufacturers usually charge for map updates. Make sure to check up about that before buying a unit. TomTom, Magellen and Garmin are all good brands with good support. Make sure to look up the support page when buying a unit. There is very little difference between a 100 dollar model and a 400. Also, some places use different sources for their maps. I think TomTom use mapquest, which I dont recommend. Best of luck! Like I said earlier, many placees are having one hell of a sale now, so dont delay!
