Ok, here's my first shot for the month. I'm glad everyone is liking this one, and hope that this is the start of what will be an active year of shmups.

foxhound1022 - 2,856,230 - Stage 5 (Boss) - Windina - MVS (No Auto)

Well dang, Donnie. Something BIG to shoot for...

Normally I wouldn't like a game like this for scoring purposes because there is a ton of milking you can do on bosses, but the survival isn't necessarily easy during that milking, so I think the risk / reward is enough to make it a personal choice to try and milk.

The 3rd boss can be milked heavily, but you have to dodge a ton of stuff to get to the point where he spams cancelable bullets.

Fair warning - dad has been playing this a lot last night and again this morning. The kiddos want a shot so i'm bringing it upstairs and if any of them hit 300K i'll be posting their scores (expect the 8yo to make the board, the other 3 probably won't...)

I use the Reco autofire pcb (http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45870). It's really awesome for some of the older games like Fire Shark.

Nice score foxhound!

It's amazing you find time to play games with four kids, Mike!

It only fits that the one who nominates it is the one who is pretty good at it, right? As for the Windina, that's my second go-to-ship, but I haven't seen how well it scores. It does better with the easy rapid fire tap, and the shots cover more area. I just don't see a lot of x128-s out of it.

To clarify on the time you can't charge the Shot meter, the only time the meter becomes unavailable is when you do the break shot. I messed that up in an earlier post. It doesn't matter how much you charge it for a regular charge shot, the meter will be immediately available again after that.

Good scores all. Lots of participation so far too!

No, not a lot of x128 going on, but you do take down pretty much everything you see, and it allows you to survive longer.

My score came from the LUCKY bonuses, and building up the bonus pickup amount. With the frequency they appear, and when they add 30-40k a piece; it adds up quickly.

This game is really fun. Most of my score comes from the blue orbs since they increase in value as you collect more.

jepjepjep - 8,571,800 - Stage 4 - Windina - MVS no-auto

8 million in Stage 4?! Color me humble.

It makes my latest score, well, small.

ExedExes - 2,161,930 - Aryustailm - Stage 3 - MAME

So how do these blue point orbs work as far as scoring goes? What makes them increase? Do they drop in value if you miss one? Does having the event item make them score more? Should we really consider getting them more????

They do drop if you don't get them, but still don't see how those or the LUCKY tokens could get you to 8 million by stage 4...unless they start being worth 6 figures each or some such (I've not seen them over 20-40K in my own run to the 4th stage, iirc). Is there a way to make a bunch more generate? jep, what was your stage by stage score? It would give us a good sense of what to shoot for as we try to improve level to level.

I'd like to see the score breakdown too, if possible. It will show that list of each stage you played if you wait for it on the attract mode. I also think it would help the rest of us.
