Random Gaming Thoughts

A bunch of my college buddies get together on Thursday nights to play PC games. We play random games, no real schedule. It really depends on how many people we have. Sadly Starbound's server is so odd right now we were rubberbanding badly to the point of unplayable. So, since we had five people, we played 2v3 TFC, everyone must play random team and random class. That way you never no what is going to happen.

We started on 2fort and I was on the team of two. My teammate was Acks little brother who is a nasty demoman from way back and he handled defense once we found our groove. I would run throuhg lives until I got a scout or medic and then bumrush for the flag and conc jump out the elevator. I only made that jump twice, once with the conc, the other with a rocket grenade jump. The game ended on a tie and we moved to Warpath. Where the game went back and forth and eventually became a 2v2 then a 2v1. Mostly because Ack and his brother were on the same connection and it crapped out. I held them aslong as I could, but the opposing team ended up winning with a well timed conc over the bridge from 3 to 4 and then being to fast for my engy.

Next week it could be Killing Floor, Dungeon Defenders, or even Half Life Deathmatch. We like to keep it interesting.

If the party isnt too inclusive, I wouldnt mind joining in some action some times. Sadly, most of my multiplayer gaming session friends are too hard to organize anymore...

Ive done quite my share of online gaming, so I know the drill

I also do the podcast, so of course I have mic and headphones.

The time issue is the biggest factor.

Hey, long as you don't mind talking to a teenager, I'm fine. Though I may not talk much due to my mom always having the front room TV loud and I'm like ~9 feet away. (so my mic would be silent because I just use the v button for steam games.)

I have Killing Floor, TF2, Left For Dead 2, Just Cause 2 Multiplayer, Terraria, Spiral Knights, Garry's mod, payday the heist and Dead Rising 2/Off The Record.

The contest boards is when shit really hits the fan like character and video game poll tournaments. The console wars is too real on gamefaqs like most of the other commercial sites.

Unfortunately, The Legacy Platforms board turned into System Wars - Classic Edition. Years back, there were some good users and discussions on there.

Isn't that a Gamespot board? AFAIK GF and GS boards are still separate, except for the game-specific ones.

I'm really not sure. There's a System Wars on GameSpot, too, if that's the case, then.

No, I meant I thought "Legacy Platforms" was a GS board. I know for a fact ""System Wars" is on GS.

So what clone console would be the best option? I know of the upcoming Retron 5, but what else would be a good option? I'm looking for SNES, NES, and Genesis, and would like the best compatibility I can get. What's the scoop on them?

Clone consoles suck and should be avoided if you can help it.

Yeah wait until the Retron 5. If it delivers in the way I think/hope it will, every other clone will become obsolete.

The only currently available clone consoles that I think are even remotely worthwhile are those that allow you to play home console games on a portable device (ie: the SupaBoy).

Going from SamsonLonghair's observations, Retron 5 is basically just an emulation box with enough power for "playable," but not really "accurate" emulation. It's not much of a replacement for the real things.

Still playing Lunar.

Kinda annoyed at how you don't really know how new equipment will affect your stats unless you go into your Status screen, look at the stats, go back, go into the Equip screen, change equipment, and then go back to the Status screen.

Come to think of it, as far as I can tell, there's no real way to know what ANY item does until you use it for the first time.

That kinda annoys me a little, but not enough to turn me away from the game or anything. It is kinda archaic though.

Does the PS1 remake have this problem?

(I was going to post this in the RPG progress report thread, and actually did for a bit, but then I remembered the unmarked spoiler "rule" and decided I'd rather not chance that.)
