Haven't picked up any issues but the fact that they haven't hit the reset button yet is kind of amazing.

Hmm. That's some food for thought.Stark wrote: I just imagine Luke has an IFTTT search happening for the word "literally"...
I'm reading the BATMAN GOTHIC limited series as once again I'm on a Batman video game kick.
In a word, the comics are morbid at best. That's not a knock, as the comics were meant to be as such. In fact I would wager that our buddy Dish would read the series, say "Those guys are dicks" and he would be correct. Not sure if he would like the books, but he would get the characters.
There is a lot more going on in the series than people being wankers, but beyond that I don't think you can say "morals" play a part in the series (which is usually the underlying theme in Batman Books -that I like-). Still. worth multiple reads.

OMG, what is with you guys? Did I insult you? Did I say you suck? Did I say anything about your mom or your family? Did I call you names? Did I cuss at you? How in the hell are you people offended?SpaceBooger wrote:Part of me wants to... but because I'm a mod I feel the need to squash trouble by ignoring it and being the bigger person.Ack wrote:Very well, BD. I never directly insulted the guy, get off your high horse, dude. I simply disagreed with him. I vehemently disagreed, yeah, and I still absolutely do; but I never said you suck or called him names or anything.
I was/am offended by the way in which he responded to my post ESPECIALLY since he did not read it and made fun of my opinion based on something I did not say - or something I did say that he ignored. I realized that he doesn't feel bad, and now I know not to discuss opinions with him. I will keep in mind how other opinions are treated... and like I said multiple times in this post - I can be biased. Lets move on...
I'm sorry my opinion doesn't jive with yours, but boo-freaking-hoo. Get over it. People are going to disagree with you in life. Especially when you say someone that is that beloved and popular in comics, on a comic thread, is "average".
Dear God, you people better moderate me and teach me a lesson for disagreeing with the resident comic guy on the comic thread.

Re: The Comic Book Thread
I feel I need to respond to something in this conversation that got me all riled up.
Seriously though, I despise the entire concept. And yes, before someone nags me, I have read a few issues, and I think its awful. If I read an issue of a superhero comic book and fervently hope for the "hero" to die a horrible, painful death, then there is a problem.
Not to mention, thanks to the hopelessly inferior octopus-man, I had to get my Spider-fix through Venom and Scarlet Spider. Both great books, so not a problem right? Oh wait, Marvel cancelled them because fuck me.
While I'm ranting, to hell with DC's 52. The only character I care about anymore is Superboy, (mainly because he's been a favorite since childhood) and he is a shadow of his former self.
The only comics running right now that aren't pissing me off are the Sonic comics, and they've just been forced into a massive reboot over legal bullshit. The writer is taking care of business extremely well, but its still a big change that interfered with several ongoing stories that will unfortunately never be concluded.
I'm not a happy comic fan at the moment.

I hate what they did to Peter Parker, too. After all the crap that character has been through, and all the time you're rooting for him to come through, and then that happens. But at the same time, I'm STILL reading Superior Spider-Man. It's just so well-written, and I'm anticipating that moment when it all falls apart for Doc Ock (we all know Peter is coming back at some point, this is comics, after all). And the addition of Spider-Man 2099 as a guest-star is a pretty nice bonus.CFFJR wrote:I feel I need to respond to something in this conversation that got me all riled up.

I'm in complete agreement about New 52. Most of it has been a mess. Everything is just so damn dark and gloomy in the DC Universe anymore. And most of the characters are a shadow of their former versions. I have noticed that at least the Superman books seem to be veering back to the old feel it had, in the last few storylines. Superman is becoming more like Superman and less like a vigilante.

You hit the nail on the head there. Parker has been put through so much hell over the years and triumphed over all of it, and watching him be so thoroughly torn apart and shat upon as though this character and his history meant nothing really killed my enthusiasm.BurningDoom wrote:

I'm genuinely happy you're enjoying Superior for what it is, but I can't take it. I'm just awaiting the day when, as you said, Ock gets his. When Peter comes back to the book (which I imagine will happen right around the time Amazing Spider-man 2 comes out
What are they doing with Miguel anyway? I'd heard he'd been brought in and was apparently stuck in the present? I haven't followed it, but I'm curious what the character is up to.
As for DC, glad I'm not the only one. Good to know that Superman might be changing a bit though. I may check it out again if that's the case.

Re: The Comic Book Thread
Sorry to stir the pot a bit, but please do not compare Geoff Johns to Alan Moore.
I received some of the Alan Moore Swamp Thing run for xmas, book four. It's great. I also got Scott Synder's Swamp Thing book one. It's awful. He gave Alec wings. So stupid.
I have officially given up on buying monthly comics now though. Overpriced and mostly bad is not a great combo. Wonder Woman is good, though I prefer it in trade as it is a bit denser than the average super-hero fare. And my go to line with the Ultimates is now a rabies infested diarrhetic dog that is in serious need of being taken round the back of the shed and shown both barrels.
