I also really like Gladiator, but not as much as Braveheart. I am luke-warm on Kingdom of Heaven and didnt care much for Troy or the others. I think the historical epic really suits my tastes and I am naturally inclined to enjoy them.
I think the gore in Braveheart is fine. I hear they even had to take some out. It added impact and savagery to the film. I also liked the humor. Mooning the british army, the stone throwing, the irish guy etc... Crude? Sure, but it felt fitting.
I wonder if some of the people not liking Braveheart now (not necessarily you guys) are doing do because they dont like Mel Gibson as a person any more from his recent antics, and so have soured on his films?

That definitelty isn't my reason. I still like the Mad Max films, and I thought that Get the Gringo (2012) was awesome.Jmustang1968 wrote:I wonder if some of the people not liking Braveheart now (not necessarily you guys) are doing do because they dont like Me Gibson as a person any more from his recent antics, and so have soured on his films?
Speaking of awesome...my wife and I watched the MST3K version of Laserblast last night. The film is the perfect combination of watchable and terrible, and the MST3K team was really firing on all cylinders for that one!

I think he is one of my favorite actors from the last 30 years. I generally enjoy movies he is in and usually has great perfomances. I liked Get the Gringo as well.prfsnl_gmr wrote:That definitelty isn't my reason. Ryan Reynolds was a TERRIBLE choice for Hal Jordan. Yeah, Hal is cocky and headstrong. But he's not a goofball. And Hal is a bit of tortured soul with a strong sense of responsibility, and Ryan Reynolds didn't portray that aspect of his character at all.
If I could pick anyone past or present, a young Harrison Ford would be perfect.

Who, Mel haters included, wouldn't love the majority of the Lethal Weapon series?
Jerks. That's who.

Yeah, it is very good. I had figured out most of the plot twists well in advance, but that didn't hamper my enjoyment the way it would in a lesser detective film. Excellent pacing and performances. And the last 30 seconds I doubt anyone saw coming. An intense way to end!Jmustang1968 wrote:That movie is good. Speaking of swords and sandals movies scraping the bottom, how exactly are they making a movie about Pompeii? It existed, then the volcano blew and was fast enough that the entire city got buried under ash. The trailer makes it seem like another entry in the 300 series.
