(Just kidding, I put salt and pepper - and, occasionally, a bit of blue cheese or butter - in my stone ground grits.

You've had "real" South Carolina grits before correct? Stuff is amazing compared to what Quaker puts out as "grits".fastbilly1 wrote:I honestly do not care for grits.
Proper grits need no seasoning or butter. But I've only had proper grits three times in my my life, so I would probably s&p and butter them up. No sugar.
My wife is a plain oatmeal fiend. I prefer steel cut or Irish oatmeal, but she loves the Quaker oats. Her favorite oatmeal toppings: Parmesan cheese and extra virgin olive oil. Sounds weird, but oatmeal is a blank canvas.

I have had real grits from South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Virginia. The best are from a mill in South Carolina is own by my little brothers inlaws. Their grits are stoneground and available at random places across South Carolina:Luke wrote:You've had "real" South Carolina grits before correct? He always comes in with a big bag of them.
I have never tried Parmesan and olive oil on oatmeal, that sounds interesting. But I am with you, McCanns is my preferred oatmeal.

Two of my top picks for grits:
http://www.middletonplace.org/
http://www.hominygrill.com/
Both provide incredible grits and a memorable experience.

My milk delivery service - which is awesome BTW - supplies me with grits from Old Mill of Guilford. If you can get them, I highly recommend them!

I dont care for grits, but I will eat them. Maybe they arent as big in Texas, but they seemingly arent as important of a food staple here as the southern states east of us.
