Ok:

-Thread titles without a descriptive topic are fucking useless click bait
-90% of the threads you start have these kinds of topic titles, regardless of how many times it has been pointed out
-You are asking a question that has been asked and answered ad nauseum on the forums, something I'd expect a regular poster who reads other people's threads to know something about.

Beyond that...

-plenty of people seem to have inane ideas about how a hobbyist market does or should operate
-there's far too much whining that the market for old games isn't to someone's preference, which is clearly the fault of horrible people
-as Apple pointed out, there's plenty of hypocrisy about buying/selling/flipping here as well

tldr: new year, same shit

You feel better? By the way it wasn't the same posting. The same would ask which system is better or what should should i get? Well i hope you feel better since you let all the out. If you're still angry or have to vent still. Go do some yoga or pushups. That's what i do. Don't let people get you mad especially at 6am.

Wow dude, I've never seen you so angry about something so trivial. I mean, you know I agree with you but you seem cranky. What happened man?

I understand. I'm not trying to get you mad or anything but I wrote this for a friend because he was wondering. That's all. Don't have a thread ruin your day man. It's friday. If it helps it 2 degrees out and we have 16 inches of snow and I have to shovel.

Yeah, I apologize: I think I confused those kinds of posts with posts with vague descriptors. You don't post this kind a lot, but you've been around enough to know that these titles are often changed by mods and generally disliked.

I wasn't/am not that mad, I was asked to vent so I did. Venting makes one sound madder than they probably really are.

The thing that I dont think anyone mentioned is that Craigslist has really taken a toll on game stores. Why should I sell it to a store for peanuts, when I can meet someone at a public place and I can sell them the games there, in cash, fast and simple. Take a look at any local Craigslist and I bet you see a dozen posts for "buying games." Sure they typically give peanuts, just like stores, but it does come down to ease for most people.

I know in one of the areas I travel to for work, there are two guys who work as a team and buy every retro game that pops up on craigslist and tries to sell them at fleamarkets. His booth is filled with crappy games, all sunfaded, since he sells all the valuable ones on ebay. I know this because he brags about it openly with other vendors - one of which I buy from every time, since he and I have the same taste in music and he is slowly selling off his vinyl.

mas wrote:Hey ACK Aren't you glad you kept your snes collection? Imagine trying to buy all those games you own now. I couldn't imagine the total price.
I was never considering getting rid of them. But in truth, the total price might be a little higher at this point, but it still would be something I'd pay(and some expensive games I got for free or at discount because I watched and waited for the right moment to purchase or pursue them). And I'm still collecting SNES games and not really complaining about it. There are certain higher price tier games I wonder about, but I can also afford to watch and wait on those. See, I consider this a hobby that is worth saving up for and holding off on other entertainment purchases as necessary when I want to buy something big. So I sink a month's entertainment budget on a single game, so what? And there are still plenty of SNES games I don't own that are $5 or less, and plenty SNES games I own that I haven't beaten yet.

I'm just glad I haven't had to break out the charts.

<sigh>

At some point, I am going to start an "Economics 101" or "Basic Principles of Supply and Demand" thread - complete with basic equations and graphs - so that we can simply link to it whenever people start complaining about the price of used video games. (Also, if you think that NES and SNES games are expensive now, you should have tried buying them in the '80s and '90s. They were much, much more expensive then.)

As to the original post and question...I think that you see fewer cart-based games in thrift stores and pawn shops because: (1) many pawn shops don't take old games anymore; and (2) most people with older video games sold or donated them long ago. With regard to the second point, I think you can still expect some older games to trickle into the market just like any vintage product. I would expect, however, that most of the games entering the secondary market right now to be disc-based games for sixth- and seventh-generation systems (which is why it is such a good time to buy 360, PS3, and Wii games).

EDIT: Also, there are still cheap games out there. Checking the games acquired thread, I acquired about 375 vintage, cart-based games last year. The average amount I spent on a game last years was less than $4, and I acquired the vast majority of them from local stores or on these forums. While most of the games I purchased were for less popular, truly vintage systems such as the 2600, 7800, Gameboy, etc., I certainly passed on many games for other systems that I simply do not need for my collection. While I am lucky to live in an area that is good for finding games, my point is that - with a little luck, patience, and persistence - you can still find good deals on good, vintage games.
