The market isn't ever going back to the way it was 10 years ago. That's flat out just the way it is. Sucks? Sure, but it's not going to change, not any time soon at least. It's an old meme but... deal with it. There's nothing you can do about it anyway aside from dropping out of the whole collector thing.

I'm in this for the long haul, and if that means paying $40 for a good SNES game... oh well. I'll likely get just as much entertainment value out of an expensive retro game as I can any similarly priced current gen game.

Also, people checking prices on their phones aren't necessarily resellers. Sometimes they're just collectors wanting to make sure they aren't being ripped off. Not everyone has the value of every game memorized.
Applequeso, in reality I do care. I'm not a collector in other systems besides dreamcast but I care because I was collecting for years and it was fun. Now I feel for you guys and its sucks that prices have doubled in a years time that's all and I wanted to let the guys that work and the retro store tell them that people are keeping their games and aren't reselling their games anymore well unless you have to pay the bills or feed the kids.

People are reselling, they're just doing it directly via ebay, amazon, and forums now instead of getting 10% of their value by taking it to a local game store.

@apple: 10%...!?

Actually that sounds about right. I'm just not used to selling my game to BnM stores... let alone online.

True That's what I do now. Unless they have a dreamcast game I really want that's the only time.

Well stores do have to have to make a profit to stay in business. But yeah, I agree with you.

I'm just seldom use to selling my stuff.

This isn't hard.

We just had a recession. We have recovered(though it has been sluggish).

More individuals who grew up with these video games are entering the work force and earning disposable income.

New tools and methods for buying and selling have been devised, enabling both more people to present goods to the masses but also more masses to seek out the goods they like.

Generation Y/Millennials, etc., have been noted for their heavy interest in nostalgia and objects from their childhoods, and they express it through economic transactions.

In short, there are more people who want to buy these games, thus the demand has increased massively for a dwindling supply and continues to increase, driving up costs. The only things that can be done: find a new supply or decrease demand. Finding a new supply is unlikely. Decreasing demand will be done by either removing the public's interest in video games or by removing their economic power to purchase games.

As for resellers, yes, there are a few. If video games have become an economic bubble, then it will build for a little while...and then it will burst. Just like comic books in the 1990s. Or online business. Or the housing market.

In the meantime, after years of education, I have found a career that generates increased disposable income, and I am happy to continue demanding and purchasing my games.

If I sell something at that store I get under 50% in trade and about 33% in cash. Perfect example I found a gba sp cheap. I wanted to keep the thing and was a 101 backlight model. But I traded it in because they had resident evil 2 for dreamcast for 25.00.
I got 18.00 in trade or 13.00 cash. I took the trade and bought the game. Then they sell the gba sp for 40.00
That's business. Buy cheap and double the money. Make the profit.

Hey ACK Aren't you glad you kept your snes collection? Imagine trying to buy all those games you own now. I couldn't imagine the total price.

I already decided that complaining won't change anything. Collecting is now cool so everyone is gettin on it. I asume that i 5 years a lot of people will end their collections since they already played the games they wanted to play and sell the stuff but since eveyone will be doing the same they will cut their prices down  , sound stupid but is posible.

My limit for old games is 20-30$ and that's a bit too much for me but if i really like the game well then is ok. Now if they ask 100$ there's when i get mad.

Overall if you don't like the prices people are asking just walk away and wait, eventually you'll find someone who will give a price you're willing to pay for the games.
