Favorite Video Game Names
Just like a great name for a book, band, or film, a great video game title can be so striking that it becomes a part of the experience itself even before you even switch on the console or drop a quarter into the coin slot. The other day I discovered an incredible game called "Elemental Gearbolt", a tremendous game with an awesome name -- looking into the developer's other games, I discovered that another one of their releases had an equally cool title, and I just had to check it out.
It got me thinking -- certain game titles, particularly those in which the developers cobbled together foreign terms based on their shapes and impact above their contextual usage, have an incredibly cool aesthetic to them. As a person who is also drawn to bands with names like Melt-Banana and Jellyroll Rockheads, my personal favorites are those that have a sugar-high pop energy, razorblade punk edge, and an utterly foreign, cut-up interpretation of the target language. Obtuse code-names, sideways phrases pulled from the depths of REM sleep, alien anatomy, alternate-universe pop star names, conscienceless villains from guro-comics or the Necronomicon, crass anarchy, cyberpunk anachronisms, and so on.
Here are a few of my favorites -- I stopped myself short so that I wouldn't take all of the best ones.
-Jet Set Radio Future
-Elemental Gearbolt
-Splatterhouse
-Radiant Silvergun
-Xenogears
-Thunder Force
-Panzer Dragoon Orta
-The House of the Dead
-PaRappa the Rapper
-Air Zonk
-Wachenröder
-Terranigma
-Lack of Love
-Rent-a-Hero
-ToeJam & Earl
-Gunparade March
-Zone of the Enders
What are your favorites?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If this has been discussed before, I apologize -- I tried looking for it, but the use of "title" to denote a game itself (e.g. "Best Virtual Boy Titles") and "name" as in the act of listing them in general (e.g. "Name Your Favorite X68000 Games") made it difficult to do an effective search.

Re: Favorite Video Game Names
I'm particularly fond of Lightening Force.
Some of my other favorite game names include Deus Ex, Half-Life, Assassin's Creed, and of course, Ballz 3D.

Re: Favorite Video Game Names
Only the manliest of names penetrate my lexicon of cool gaming nameology, and a champion has risen through the ranks over the years:
Twinkle Star Sprites
I do take time to remember those who had laid down their lives so that TSS may live on in infamy, they are:
Shaq Fu
Panorama Cotton
Dynamite Dekka
Brutal: Paws of Fury
Tounge of the Fatman
Seaman
Bikini Karate Babes
Twin Eagle: Revenge Joe's Brother
Cacoma Knight in Bizylan
Booby Kids
Roscoe McQueen: Firefighter Extreme
and the worst mail-it-in, fanboy engrish whoring RPG name ever:
Infinite Undiscovery
From that title, knowing nothing else about the game, am I to assume that the main character endlessly forgets everything he discovers in life and degenerates into late stage Alzheimers early in his teen life?

Getting this response is at least 98% why I asked this question in the first place. Congratulations Ryan, you've won the thread!!RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Ballz 3D.

Re: Favorite Video Game Names
I have always thought the coolest sounding game names are Radiant Silvergun and Judgment Silversword.
