Nintendo Soundtracks - official US releases

Post by jmbarnes101 »

Listening to the wonderful 8-bit music that was being streamed through the podcast last night makes me want to pick up some game soundtracks. Does anyone have or know where to find a list of US released Nintendo soundtracks sold on CD either separately or with a game? If that doesn't exist maybe we could make one.

I have the Kirby Dream Collection soundtrack and the Club Nintendo Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask soundtrack. What else is out there for Mario, Kirby, DK, Metroid, LOZ, and any of the other great Nintendo characters/games?

I usually get the .nst files (or whichever is native to the console) and convert them to mp3 if I can't get an OST.I know Zophar's domain host a decent amount of retro soundtracks.

There's a soundtrack CD bundled with the wii release of Super Mario All*Stars. It contains ten songs and ten sound effects. It's OK, not great.

There's The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Special Orchestra CD that comes with Skyward Sword. Very cool if you're a Zelda fan.

There was an Zelda: Ocarina of Time soundtrack that you could get as a pre-order back when it came out and the same with Killer Instinct on the SNES called Killer Cuts. I think there was also one released with the N64 Killer Instinct. I am sure there are more, but those are the ones I am aware of.

I understand that Ocarina CD was re-released when Ocarina was re-released for 3DS.

Nintendo also offered the DK Jamz CD in their catalog, which is an arranged Donkey Kong Country soundtrack.
It's perhaps the first CD I ever personally owned.

It's quite good, but expensive these days, so it might be better to just acquire MP3s.

this thread could make me very poor. I love game soundtracks.

I have a couple of Zelda ones that were imported, though I'm not sure how official they are. One is Ocarina of Time Re-Arranged Album, and the other is Nintendo Sound History Album: Zelda The Music.

Ocarina of Time 3D had a soundtrack you received for registering the game on Club Nintendo.

Nintendo Power used to do a lot of these as subscription bonuses. I remember once having an orchestrated Super Smash Bros. Melee one.

Here, this is most of them: http://vgmdb.net/org/267

EDIT: this, oddly, is not @ that link but will likely be one of the more common ones as it was a recent club Nintendo reward: http://vgmdb.net/album/40479
