Wish the HD collection of Yakuza 1 & 2 would get a U.S. release.

The three Sonic Advance games and the three DS games (Rush, Rush Adventures, and Colors).

I'm a whore for Mass Effect regardless that they are on the same generation.

GTA III, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, Liberty City and Vice City Stories, GTA IV and its two storied DLC. I can't recommend anything before the 3D era because I never played them.

All English releases of Fire Emblem games. That's six games right there last I counted.

Pokemon. At least the game that was the middle update game. Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, either Black or White 2, and either X or Y (no middle updated game yet). Best example of a series that spans multiple generations while gradually adding to the formula.

So there you have it.

GTA 1 & 2 are actually free for the PC. Although the download page says they are currently unavailable at the moment.

Jump in with us on the Ogre Battle series with the Together RPG group in January.
Yea I was thinking of jumping in on that. I have the the ps1, n64, and GBA Tactic Ogre games, I think that's either all or most of them.

I suggest a game called Lufia & The Fortress of Doom (AKA, Estopolis in Japan). There is a 2nd one called Lufia II: Rise of the Sinstrals; which is a prequal. Both of those are on the SNES. Then there are MANY released for the various renditions of the GameBoy.
I love Lufia, those are two amazing games!
This man. Knows. What. He's. Talking. About.

Ys is fantastic. Great music, fast gameplay, classic feel. The nice thing is that basically all of the old titles in the series have had a modern (and wonderfully done) remake.
Yea I watched some gameplay videos, and I must agree it looks really good. I think when I get paid on the 7th I will be ordering the psp remake off ebay.
Ninja Gaiden 1-3 on the Nintendo
Every single GTA
Yakuza series
I've tried to play all the old Ninja Gaidens, but they are just so dang hard, played all the new ones though.
Metal Gear, they just released a special edition that has all the games in one set.
I think I might start this series on the side also, though I absolutely hate the NES Metal Gear, might just jump in with Metal Gear Solid. I just picked up a Twin Snakes for Gamecube a week ago, and grabbed the GBC one last month so I think I have almost all of them.
Have you considered any of the Mega Man series?
Yes, but I've played multiple of the games throughout the years. It's never been one of those series that really resonated with me. Plus theres like 20 console games and like 10 handheld games, and the first 6 console games would just be the worst. Though getting through them and then getting to go through Legends 1 & 2 might make it all worthwhile.

The Silent Hill and Fatal Frame series are a creepy time. On the opposite end of the spectrum you can't go wrong with Kirby.

Not really a multi gen game but I have recently been considering going back and finishing the Xenosaga series on the PS2.

If you are looking at series with an interest in their evolution then there are loads of them:
Fatal Fury/Real Bout/Garou: Mark of the Wolves - It is incredible to see how much had changed from the original in 1991 to Garou: Mark of the Wolves in 1999, we are talking a clunky street fighter clone to a arcade masterpiece.

Tomb Raider is an obvious one, was a milestone in 1995 because it was a fully 3D adventure game that worked, consider this id software wanted to make Quake a 3rd person action game but they couldn't manage it, that's how big a deal Tomb Raider was. I recently played the original and it is still a good game, it has aged but the work and care that went into it is still apparent, I'd suggest playing the TR games until you get sick of the outdated controls, at that point jump ahead to angle of darkness and then play Legend to see how the series evolved and became relevant again.

If you want series that are good to play back to back because they offer enough variety then Silent Hill would be a good series to try, the first 4 that is, can't speak for the American developed SH games.

Remembered Ys gotten mentioned a few times here, but can't remember if you said you had a PC or Mac. If you have a PC steam has all Y's games at 75% off. Sales only on for the next hour and a half though.

Ys I & II Chronicles+- $3.75
Ys Origin- $5
Ys: The Oath in Felghana- $3.75

That's a really good deal. For reference, a physical version of Ys Origin is typically like $65-$70.
