How Should I Use a $20 Gamestop Gift Card?

Post by Frag Mortuus »

I got a $20 Gamestop Gift Card for Christmas and I don't really know what to use it on. Here is what game systems I own.

Wii / Wii U
PS3
PS4
Vita
DS / 3DS
PC

I like most any genre.

I won't mind going a little over the card but no more than a total of $30 (card and cash). So, what games do you all think are worth purchasing? I would prefer to buy a new copy of a game. But, I am not completely against buying used if it's a really good game that you can't buy new any more.

Thanks!

HAHAHA! I've been having trouble finding good stuff on the Steam sales lately. I'm a pretty avid PC gamer and have nearly every AAA game they put on sale and a lot of the indie games, but it doesn't have to be on sale for me to buy it.

Good suggestion.

Ever played any of the Ys titles? You can find them for the PS portables and on steam for dirt cheap. I am a huge fan of the earlier titles with the bump combat, while the more modern "press a button to swing your sword" titles are currently all the rage. Both styles are terrific, though. If you like games like Zelda or Secret of Mana, you'd probably adore the Ys titles.

Amazing music, too!

I've always wanted to get into Y's. The new one looks really good. I kicked myself for not buying the whole lot available on the Vita a few weeks ago. They were on sale on PSN for 7.50 each.

This is definitely a contender. Thanks for reminding me.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Wii U) is only $19.99 NEW at GS right now if you can find a copy.

An aside, but it's Ys, not Y's. No apostrophe. It's pronounced like easy, without the y at the end. Just mentioning it because, before the series finally got popular in the US, one of the only ports was for the SMS where it was mispelled with an apostrophe and for decades there was confusion about both the spelling and pronunciation.

Ys itself is actually of ancient european myth, a legend about a land that vanished without a trace, similar to Atlantis. That is to say, the legend of Ys isn't confined to the games. There are actual novels written about Ys (Hence the original title, "Ancient Ys Vanished Books I & II"). The series actually has very little to do with the titular Ys, though, outside of Ys I, II, and some versions of Ys IV.

Just a little FYI :P

I actually have this on the Wii U. Do you think it's worth owning on the 3DS as well? Is there a benefit to owning both? I think it supports cross play right?

EDIT: Sorry, I thought you linked to the 3DS version because I saw it was also on sale for $20 on GS website.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, they're both $20 right now. From what I've read, you can transfer your save data from one version to the other to continue your file on the go. Also if you're playing on the Wii U and someone plays on a 3ds next to you, you can complete quests together. So yeah... cross-play lol. Pretty neat, I think.
