Share code veronica thoughts

Post by RCBH928 »

**Notice** I didn't add this to the game review section because this is more of sharing thoughts than a game review

Hello

I just completed code veronica. It is my first Resident Evil game and is also my first dreamcast game to complete(I kind of built the idea that dreamcast=veronica like nintendo=mario and xbox=halo)

I never got this feeling , but when the game was over I really felt like standing up and applause this game! It was really great and I couldn't put down the controller as they say. It made you want to play.

The best aspects of this game is as following:
*great balance between story, action, puzzle, and progress: You never feel its too slow or too fast, you never feel like its just run around and shoot and it doesnt feel like a lot of thinking no playing.

*Great difficulty level: Enemies and puzzle are challenging just right, they are not too challenging to make you feel irritated (not entertaining) and not to easy that you feel your intelligence is being insulted by it.

*right amount of supplies: It also has a lot of balance between what you can carry, material you find for your arsenal , and variety of weapons to chose from.

*Great story: some might not like the story, but it sure is not typical. You really do not know whats coming next.

*I really liked how the story connects and you have to revisit areas , the game creators really made small number of areas to visit, but it really makes you feel that its big enough and worth going back and enjoying it like its the first time you have been there.

I always heard resident evil's controlling system is bad, but i find it to work well (d-pad), wasn't really bad at all.

One bad aspect of the game is I always thought resident evil bosses are tough (due to size and scary look) but most of them are simlpe enough to beat, I also thought there are more bosses to fight, but I only had to go through like 5 in the game and other monsters I can just run around and move on (i dont recall exact count but maybe 4 bosses i guess)

loading time, its ok when you are exploring and searching slowly, but when you know what you want to do it kind of gets in the way(i understand though its like 9 year old game) .

The thing that bothered me ithe most is the retarded equipment system. I mean why does it have to tell you that you picked up something, when you ask to do it in the first place. "you want the green herb?"-yes "you picked up the green herb" . I don't need that extra thing. Then it gets you out of the equipment management screen, then you have to go BACK to do stuff like reload or mix. And every time it needs few seconds to load. I really thought they could have saved a ton of time with smarter system.

In the end it told me that I only played 11 hours to go through the whole game, I really felt it was more like 20.I am not sure if it counts the retries though, because i had to retry a lot.

One advice about this game is that you want to go explore and see whats ahead, and once you learn whats ahead of you, you can go back and know what you need to carry around to go through the game successfully . Its basically having to play the game twice, but its exciting enough, If you know what you have to do you will be just running around and I think the whole thing can be over in 2.5 hours. A lot of it is about exploring.

This game is really good . If you like any of the following, be sure to get it:
Adventure, Horror, thriller, puzzle, action.

Thanks for your thoughts.

For me, Resident Evil: Code Veronica is by far the best of the entire series (yes, I've played through all the other games). Simply stunning.

I don't suppose we'll ever see a great RE game again.

Not gonna lie, I was a bigger fan of Resident Evil 2. It's not that I dislike Code Veronica, but...it's overall plot is where the series stars heading downhill for me. Up until this point, it's only 1-3, but with Code Veronica the plot starts going into bizarre territory that I felt detracted from the experience.

Eh oh well. Still had some good times. I believe Resident Evil 2 and 3 also got ported to Dreamcast, so give them a look if you've got the time.

I, love Code Veronica I've been through it like 5 or 6 times... and beat the mini game at the end with everybody...even wesker 8) but i think re1 had the best atmosphere. I always tell myself that if i was a billionaire i would have a replica of the re1 mansion built

It was the worst in the series until RE4 came out.

Funny that this topic came up, because I just finished it on my Dreamcast this weekend. I thought it was pretty good storyline wise and that it had a awesome mix of puzzles and lots of action even compared to the previous games. Yeah, Steve Burnside was annoying as hell, but I blame that on the voice actor.

Overall though, decent game; I'm sorry I waited so long to play it.

To me Resi lost its charm after RE2. They just topped themselves and couldn't repeat the feat. RE4 felt like a shallow TPS with little horror elements. Silent Hill has become rubbish as well. One surprisingly okay game I recently tried was Cold Fear. It certainly controlled better than RE4 and had more 'atmosphere' thanks to the fixed camera angles.

Not to mention that "Put one in their skull once they're down" mechanic. The biggest problem Cold Fear had was its release date. Less than three months after Resident Evil 4, it got branded a rip off and completely forgotten. Such a shame too, the game was scary enough my family made me quit playing whenever they were over at my apartment.
