So, I essentially skipped a generation. Glad? Guilty?

I was thinking about things today..........

Probably 60% of my 7th gen gaming was done on the DS or PSP. 30% on the Wii. 10% on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

My most played Xbox 360 game? Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection - which really can't even be considered a "7th gen" title.

Most played PS3 game was probably Eternal Sonata.

Despite the lack of play time, the PS3 and Xbox 360 were still "worth it" in my opinion - the PS3 for the JRPGs and 360 for the shmups (and some other JRPGs). I mainly use the PC as an WRPG machine.

I'm completely hooked on the handhelds though - I just hope the 3DS and Vita game libraries are as good as those on the DS and PSP.

I've considered going Nintendo-only this generation, but I don't like to limit myself. Surely something must-have for me will come out for PS4 eventually. Likely a JRPG or a new Marvel vs. Capcom title (if they renew the license, that is).

That was me as well. I didn't even get a 360 until last year. I've never really been able to keep up with new games and often get on top of new generations when they're about to go out.

Handheld gaming has always been the exception though. Maybe it's because a lot of the titles on those platforms play to my retro sensibilities better or maybe because most of them are easier to play in bite-sized chunks. Or maybe just because it's cheaper. Whatever the reason I fully expect to spend most of this generation with handhelds as well even though that market is becoming severely threatened by other mobile devices.

Tbh I woundn't have mind this for me at all.. I only would have missed fighting games, Gran Turismo, a few JRPS, Souls series and maybe BF BC 2.. Everything else I could have probably done without..

Portal 1 was a neat little diversion IMO. It was a series of fun puzzles with some entertaining monologues throughout.

Portal 2 is amazing, though. One of my favorite games of all time. Unlike portal 1, portal 2 made me laugh out loud several times while playing it. It might be the funniest game I've ever played, I thought the writing in the game was extremely sharp. I also found its story much more engaging, not just because of how well it was written but also because of the numerous clues it gives about the future of the half life series (particularly the draining in the oceans).

Wonderful games. I played portal 1 way after "the cake is a lie" had become played out. I'd still recommend portal 2 to anybody in a heartbeat.
