It is really good. Maybe a smidge too long, but very good.

Kick Ass 2

As most of you have heard or expect by now, it's nowhere near the first movie. Kick-Ass is easily in my top 5 favorite films.

Mostly it's let down by an uneven script and a lot of convoluted gaps in explaining the span of 3 years that have passed. Some of which are the fault of its predecessor's ending ala back to the future 1 and 2. The action scenes are still fun though, and the highlight is a tie between Colonel Stars and Stripes and Mother Russia.

Anchorman 2

I wished I hadn't spent the money on it, afterwards. Doesn't even come close to touching the first movie. They were just trying way too hard. Everything came off over-the-top, and yes, I realize that's how the first film was. But this time, it was just too much all the time.

Grudge Match

The movie isn't sure if it wants to be a comedy or a drama film and it has this very jarring swerve from the comedy of the first half to the drama of the second half. It wasn't a bad film, but Rocky Balboa did the "aged fighter does one last bout" much better. The second stinger was amazing, though.

In the process of putting my new Wii U through its paces, I popped in the Sky Crawlers Wii game. Seems good, even if I abhor the Wiimote control setup. Anyway, point is, it got me interested enough in watching the movie, which I've had sitting there on Blu-ray for a while.

Either it slipped past me that it was an Oshii movie, or I forgot, but I was pleasantly surprised anyway. More of a character movie than I'd assumed it was. Ending was kind of abrupt, but the post-credits scene tied it up in the vague, subtle way that (good) anime can pull off well.

Excellent movie, but is II any good?

I think I burnt my wife out on 80s movies. In the past few months, we've watched Ghostbusters, Terminator 2 (yes, I know, technically 1991, but still, an 80s movie in thought and spirit, and she wanted to skip Terminator since it wasn't as critically acclaimed), Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which meant I had to watch Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop by myself (classics that never get old!). I'm trying to think of some more excellent quintessential 80s films to watch/rewatch. She's never seen ET, so that's next, and she's watched Back to the Future too many times to rewatch. I'm unsure whether she'd like Bill and Ted, especially so soon after Ferris Bueller, so maybe something a little less teenage-y? Any suggestions?

Forgot all about this movie, and I used to love it! I could hear his weird laugh in my head as soon as I saw the poster. And then I though of Peter Griffen humming the theme song to this movie in the 80s time-travel episode, lol.
