Brother just scored me a PVM-14N4U for Christmas. I currently have scart cables for my genesis and saturn. They currently plug into a cheapo plastic scart switch, then they go to an expensive scart>component converter then to the tv. Since I wont need to convert the signal, I only need a cable that goes from scart male to the PVM.
I am thinking this website. http://www.retrogamingcables.com/sony-pvm.html But I don't know which cable to get?
Please help!
Just got a PVM-14N4U. What cables?

Re: Just got a PVM-14N4U. What cables?
The "Female RGB SCART to BNC adapter breakout cable" should be enough. Go ahead and buy the more expensive "+ CSYNC" version if you want to be extra careful (some mintors and scalers are really picky about sync.)
Re: Just got a PVM-14N4U. What cables?
Congrats on the PVM, they are great. Which of those cables that you go with will depend a little on where you are getting sync, and where you want to send it. Some consoles output raw sync, or you can get sync from the composite video. Some devices want raw sync, which would need a stripper as in the more expensive cable you linked to if you are getting sync from composite.
I'd highly recommend checking out www.retrorgb.com for detailed info, or you can read more about sync here: http://www.retrorgb.com/sync.html

I have no idea where I am getting the sync. Right now I am hooking a scart cable to a scart switch. Then from the scart switch to a scart to component converter. So...whatever will do that? I am running a genesis and Sega Saturn.
Re: Just got a PVM-14N4U. What cables?
OK, you have SCART out from the two consoles already? Is it Euro SCART or Japanese SCART? The pin configuration is different. I would find look at where you bought the SCART cables to find out if they are raw sync or composite sync. The PVM shouldn't care where you are getting sync, and if you are only going to feed the SCART to the PVM and not to any other devices the cheaper cable should be fine.treepop wrote: I have no idea where I am getting the sync. Will getting the more expensive one guarantee compatibility?Duke.Togo wrote:OK, you have SCART out from the two consoles already? Is it Euro SCART or Japanese SCART? Genesis: I can't link but here is description: Up for sale is a brand new, professionally assembled SCART RGB cable. It will automatically switch your TV into the highest possible quality signal from your system - RGB with sound sent to both speaker channels. It also includes 220uf capacitors and resistors to prevent your image from displaying too brightly
Please note if used in non European countries such as USA, Canada etc, TVs do not have SCART as standard so you will need a SCART>component video converter to achieve the best image. Even through a converter, the improvement over composite video is considerable.
This cable is fully compatible with the following Sega systems.
Sega Megadrive 1 (UK or Japanese)
Sega Megadrive 1 European (PAL or SECAM)
Sega Genesis 1

Quick little aside. I was doing some testing on this monitor to make sure everything looked nice and bright. I plugged my turbo duo into it and the picture looks amazing.
NOW HERE'S THE CRAZY PART. CD Rom games will not work while plugged into the PVM. I thought my drive was dying. But I put it back on my WEGA and it was good to go. I put it back to the PVM and no go. I put it back to the WEGA and I was good to go. I then swapped mid game and the game just halted and went to the pc-engine loading screen. ISN'T THAT WEIRD!??!??!?!??!?!??!?
Re: Just got a PVM-14N4U. What cables?
It sounds like both are Euro SCART, which is what most SCART to BNC cables require, so you are good there. Again, if you are only going to use them on the PVM and not an upscaler, the cheaper should be fine. If you want to get one that you can make sure will be of full use in the future in case you decide to go with a different setup, get the more expensive one.
Not sure on the Turbo CD situation. I have a PC Engine/CD combo setup, but haven't tried it on the PVM since I don't have any RGB out on it right now.

Re: Just got a PVM-14N4U. What cables?
Okay great. Thanks. I don't ever plan to do anything but run SCART to a PVM or CRT. I might get a PVM with a SCART/computer hookup IE a 20incher, but never EVER an LCD. Sacrilegious!Duke.Togo wrote:It sounds like both are Euro SCART, which is what most SCART to BNC cables require, so you are good there. As for the CD I am using a BNC to composite adapter I bought at Radio Shack and am using the video input jack on the back of the 14 inch PVM. This was for testing only. It really does look razer sharp already though. Just a weird little anomaly. I honestly didn't think the jack took anything back with it...I though the video output on the pce duo was OUTPUT. Wouldn't think it mattered what I hooked it up to.
Re: Just got a PVM-14N4U. What cables?
Okay. So do I need output or input? I am sure I want a male, since it will plug into that switch I linked. I know this is a stupid question, but I don't want to be wrong and blow $50
