thought only 60gb were true BC and 80gb software BC
Yeah I'm checking it out now :P. Might have been mistaken. However it was showing an internal partition for a PS2 and PS1 memory card when I went through the menus earlier.

Edit: Yeah no PS2 backwards compatibility dang. :P I always thought it wasn't taken out until the slim models :P. Might be exchanging it anyways wireless seems to be out on it as well as the power button :P.

PS3s can work with PS2 memory cards regardless of backwards compatibility, far as I know. At least, I've been able to back them up on my Slim.

Yeah the options still there on all of them :P. At least I learned that all PS3s are PS1 compatible from the experience though. Thought that was scrapped along with PS2 compatibility early on :P.

They had another one of the original PS3s in stock so I'll see if it's one of the 20/60/80 GB units that has PS2 compatibility. If not I'll see if they can give me store credit.

I had a 30% off coupon at Savers and today is the last day that they're honoring them so I felt like I HAD to go out and find something. I'm glad I did. I picked up yet another N64 w/cables for $6 ($4.20 w/discount). Unfortunately the power supply is dead but for that price I really can't complain. This is the 5th one I've found in the last month, if I recall properly. Even though I literally have a stack of N64s that are not meant to be a part of my permanent collection, it is damn near impossible for me to leave something like that on the shelf when I see one so cheap. In the new year, I think I'm going to start leaving stuff like this for the next guy because these things are just piling up due to my disdain for eBay and some of the people I have had to deal with as a seller.

I also found a complete copy of Kirby's Air Ride for the Gamecube for $2.99 ($2.10- not pictured). But best of all I finally picked up a back-up Wii (gotta have a back-up for all my systems)...and it was marked at $24.99 ($17.50 w/discount). It came with all the necessary cables, a Wii remote and nunchuck, complete copies of Wii Sports, Wii Fit, a sealed copy of Wii Sports Resort (w/Wii Motion Plus attachment), and some other odds and ends. This is significant to me because the thrift stores around here routinely price Wiis at $70 with no games and I have seen them as high as $125. Merry Christmas to me!

At the other Savers in town I saw a PSP 1000 for $25 in a baggie with the electronics but I couldn't justify the risk because of all the broken stuff this particular store sells. I already have one anyway but it's not in the best shape. I'm sure I'll come across a cheap replacement that I can verify works one of these days.

On no, don't do that. Why risk the YLOD mileage wear on a PS3 for the PS2 and PS1 games? A slim PS3 has a better track record of durability. Besides, the PS2 has the hard drive full install convenience option for its games.

Already have a slim just thought it would be cool to get an original as well and if it had backwards compatibility it could take the place of my PS2 in my room instead of having to pick a system to swap it out with. No shelf space left for any more consoles in there :P. Have a Wii, Atari 2600, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, Genesis, SNES, NES, and N64 hooked up any more and I would have to get another A/V switch box.

How much is the average price range of ps2 games by now?

I never owned a ps2 and had plans on getting the slim model but due to my lack of money and time (big backlog) + many of the best games are available for lower prices and in HD remakes on the PSN store I see no reason to purchase a dedicate ps2 .

PSN and HD remakes will cover a good chunk of the popular games on the system, but it really only scratches the surface of what the console has to offer.

My wife - who is the best, BTW - gives great presents...

To be fair, my brother got me Mario & Luigi, and my father-in-law got me Rayman Legends. The 7800 and Intellivision lots are really the highlights, however. (Now, I just have to get the Intellivision to output a coherent image...)
