Why is there a memory card holder in every PS2 and GC case? I mean did people actually buy memory cards for each game? Those things used to cost a fortune.

The really late Ps2 games didn't have the holders.

As for why? Who knows, they were handy anyway.

Parents got me an Amazon gift card for Christmas.

Used it to buy Secret of the Stars.

It's real useful if you want to carry a game and a card, and the GC cases even have that space on the 2 disc games!

So what are you left with, a few cents?

Yes, but that's probably not what they had in mind when they made the template for the cases. It's just kind of odd because for one, one card holds multiple games and two, in their heyday they used to cost a ton.

Anyone know why Giatroo Man on PS2 is rare?

Memory cards became a "thing" as early as the mid nineties as they were a necessity (and some looked really rad). That, and opening a game with a memory card dedicated to only that game meant you weren't toying around.

Another reason was that a ton of games took up a lot of storage space.

Never thought anyone used those. But, while checking a disc at a thrift store, noticed a memory card inside. Free score! For $4 would have got it no matter what the game was, luckily it was .hack//infection, not the usual crappy sports game.

You take a game to a friends house but want to continue your own game or want to play the game with everything unlocked. So you put your memory card in there.

Better question, why the current games stop comming with manuals but they still made the case to hold such manuals.

Like PES... my brother needed a whole memory card for that game alone.

Some games have ads and some direct you to the digital manual. For instance NFS: Rivals has a ad for FIFA 14 and their new movie with Aaron Paul. As soon as digital manuals become the standard I'm sure they'll be a thing of the past.

There's likely little reason not to put the tabs there in case they want any kind of insert. Whether a voucher/code, manual, quick reference card, or whatever else.
