2 things I've been thinking recently:

1. We need more fighting games ported to PC, I downloaded Guilty Gear X2 from gog yesterday and it is incredible, I'm going to order the games for windows version of blazblue off Amazon after Christmas and I'll download KOF13 on steam if it drops to 75% off.
Sure you can emulate stuff and use GGPO but I don't want them I want studios and publishers to release fighting games on PC, I want to play Tekken Tag 2 on my PC, I want to play virtua fighter, loads of console games play on PC's now and most games are configured to use xbox 360 controllers.

2. Franchise Tournament Fighters are due a comback. We still get some of these but I want to see a studio come out and start making stuff like The Power Rangers Fighting Edition on SNES and Gundam Wing fighting game on Super Famicom, those were awesome, it is only anime franchises and the like that are doing this now but there are loads of things that would make good fighting games, a 2D Adventure Time fighter would easily be better than the recent Adventure Time game.

It also didn't have very many games. I think only 1984 had less. (Seriously, I have only 4 games from 1984, and 5 from 1985. Atari had died, the NES hadn't yet taken off. A real in-between time for gaming.)

Oh wow you're right. I just looked at RFGen and I only have six from 1985.

Five-A-Side Soccer (Commodore 64)
Ms. Pac-Man (Atari 2600 - re-release)
Nine Princes in Amber (Commodore 64)
One-on-One (Tandy Color)
Pitfall II (Tandy Color)
Winter Games (Commodore 64)

So my one console game from that year is a re-release.

1984 is even more interesting. Eight games, but none of them are for consoles!

Breakthru (Commodore 64)
Desert Rider (Tandy Color)
FlightSim I (Tandy Color)
Ghana Bwana (Tandy Color)
Jack Attack (Commodore 16)
Logic Levels (Commodore 64)
Spy vs. Spy (Commodore 64)
Star League Baseball and On-Field Football (Commodore 64)

Very interesting... Things pick right up in 1986.

Holy crap the beginning of the blue ball puzzle in Penumbra Requiem is annoying. :?

Yes I want to fight the dodgy physics engine and try 20 times to get it done once I figure out how to think outside the box.

Gah. I have this problem every time I play the Witcher 2, I suddenly feel left out on so many little details and such of the story. I really wish CDP had actually made Rise of the White Wolf... or that somebody modded the game to have the Witchers 2 Combat, or some such. Blegh.

I think 1985 was a pretty good year, we got Ghosts'n Goblins, Space Harrier, Hang-On, Gradius and Gauntlet, to name a few. Japanese gaming started to hit their stride this year.

Which explains why 1984 was poor, the Western arcade market crashed in 1982 and most arcade closer between 1982 and 1983, making the innovation from that side pretty rare and while some very important games were released that year in Japan (The Tower of Druaga comes to mind), the fruits of progess wouldn't hit until 1985.

The only 1985 game I have is Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, and that's a GoG download.
