I have just obtained a copy of Cotton Boomerang (for a very reasonable price - not cheap, but reasonable). I'm pretty pleased! After Christmas there may still be some money left for something else too, so I'll keep on thinking...

Thanks for advice so far!

Battle Garegga hands down out of the list you have presented.

*Edit* congrats on your Cotton Boomerang purchase! that was my second choice! lol

Thanks. Maybe Battle Garegga will be next? Or maybe something else. It's just that there happened to be a Boomerang available, at a good price, and I was looking for something to buy. All worked out!

I like the videos of Garegga too, but it does scare me a bit...

I notice nobody mentioned Batsugun or Ikaruga or Radiant Silvergun?

(Just curious...)

MUSHA, imo, is not worth the asking price. If it looks interesting to you, though, you should be able to make your money back if you decide its not for you.

Batsugun is nice, but I would definitely pick up Garegga instead, since they aren't too far off in price. Garegga is one that, if it clicks with you, you'll be playing years from now. Batsugun, for me, is more of an occasional romp. If you like boss milking you might want to stick with Batsugun and play for score... but then again, if you like boss milking I would still recommend Garegga.

Ibara is similar to Mushi in that the first few stages have pretty ho-hum tracks, but it really picks up from there. Some of the later tracks are really, really good. Not their best soundtrack, but it makes top 5 for me personally.

I wholeheartedly agree. If you wait for a battle garegga auction (not buy it now), it can be had for ~20 bucks more than batsugun. I landed mine for around 125 earlier this year.

While I won't argue it anymore (I know I'll lose), but I still think Hyper Duel kicks ass.

I don't know about Batsugun, but I think the reason why Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun weren't mentioned were because they're available elsewhere cheaply and because they're the more "obvious" choices.

If it was me I'd go for Battle Garegga but I'm a bit bias when it comes to Saturn SHMUPS with it being my favorite system. Ginga Force & Eschatos seems like it would be a smooth move too.
