True enough. I don't wish the guy any ill will. Met him once because I was at a convention with a friend that is a fan of his, and he seemed like a very nice, down to earth guy.

The answer of "Why would it be?" has already been answered by cha cha.

What? You guys didn't read his posts ;)

Generating "subscribers" is simple as pie. Not saying that I don't believe that James has a million followers (as I'm sure he does over all these years). But current subscribers is a whole other issue. I would guesstimate he has around 250k current subscribers who watch...well, he hasn't been churning out the videos like he used to for years.

To simplify things, I can say my e-commerce has as many subscribers as I want to. When things are privately owned, you can say whatever, and generate any numbers you want.

And to 100% honest, most e-stats are nothing but marketing tools. Manipulating Alexa ratings isn't difficult. Nor is faking your bounce rate or any stat that people can't research.

Even if your estimate of 1/4 of the amount of subscribers is accurate; 250,000 subscribers to one single game reviewer, on only one outlet where he shows his videos; is still a whole lot more representative than Cha Cha's small sampling of his friends' opinions.

And BTW, that isn't some made up number by AVGN (where do you get that idea?). That's the actual amount of numbers subscribed.

So has the conversation now shifted to worrying about how poor AVGN will ever survive this crisis? Even after already acknowledging that his content can be watched through other sites and how most of his fans know that (and this controversy has probably gotten him more support than he had before)?

Can someone please link me to a few examples (just a few) of youtubers who have unjustifiably lost everything due to this policy change and have not been able to post their content elsewhere? The people who's livelihood has been destroyed by this because they in no way can go to a new site and their fans will never be able to find them again?
I just wanna do some fact-checking here. I find it hard to believe, if they had so many ardent and loyal fans, that they'd lose everything by moving to another website.

I also love how me just trying to get people to look at the flip side of the coin is making me sound like a champion in defense of YT here, a website I absolutely loathe. Oh sweet irony.

Sure, but don't people know that the number of subs is a cumulative, not current number? That doesn't mean they are "inflated".

I guess that yes - numbers can be manipulated on purpose - but I don't see any reason to think James is doing or has done that.

I don't recall championing AVGN. I used the number to show how incredibly inaccurate your judgments are based off of a sampling of opinions from a very small group of people.

You said that nobody cares about these reviewers because none of your friends care. So I showed you over a 1,000,000 people (or 250,000 people if you believe Luke's estimate, point still stands) that care about just a single reviewer.

I'm not cha cha's representative, so I have no idea what demo his friends represent. READ.

Nor did I say James made up his numbers. READ.

I said numbers are easily manipulated. READ.

You remind me of a drunk guy that I met when I was six years old at Wrigley Field who kept dismissing everything I said because not everything was connecting upstairs. Quoth the drunk "I"m hearing you kid, but I'm not listening".

Nothing wrong with the thoughts expressed by cha cha at all.. But it would be nice to actually make a change in YT that's more accommodating to people with visions like this.. I personally don't care for most YT reviewers but I can see why there is a niche for them.. With that said, having no longplays sucks.. I actually watched quite a few of them..
