I played the English version and liked it a whole lot. Lenneth's voice actor was very cool, and the translated script was great. If I become proficient in Japanese I will probably play the original version too.

I like hearing English voices more than Japanese when the game takes place in a Western setting, although it would have been really impressive if someone made a Finnish dub or something. I can just imagine the Japanese voice actors trying to say "Arngrim" and "einjerjar." :lol: Weren't the names a little strange too? Hrist was called "Huly," which doesn't sound Nordic at all.

Can't complain about losing characters though, I knew I was in for it from the beginning and there's a bit of strategy in choosing who to send and who to raise. If you aren't careful you'll end up with two magicians, or three light warriors and no damage dealer. Beyond that, getting a new character strong enough to be useful takes some planning.

You need to play "Hard" mode though. It's actually easier than Normal, but it's the only way to play the awesome puzzle dungeons.s
Thanks for that. I will keep you updated for sure. In fact, I have an update to add now :D.

I am one of the people who actually prefer to hear the original japanese voices as opposed to american Dubbed game voices. I just think there is more feeling, intensity, passion, as well as I feel the sound of their voice matches the characters much much better. So whenever possible I like to either play w/ english text w/ japanese voices w/ english subtitles or not(doesn't matter to me). To each their own I feel though as everyone's entitled to feel, like, dislike, or decide what they prefer and enjoy more. No one is more right than another is how I feel, but that's my take on that.

As far as the names and such go, yes, they are different in the original japanese release. Item's as well. Some are the same while others are different(sometimes very different). When I describe characters here I will use the english names as I feel more people here will know/understand what I am talking about. But just for a few examples(US on left JP on right):

Arngrim=Aryuuze
Jelanda=Jeraado
Llewelyn=Rauri
Lawfer=Roufa
Valkyrie=Varukirii
Einherjar=Einferia

You can get the point and those are just a few differences in names and such from the US version to the Original JP version. I think the name differences are cool personally and adds to the fun of the game.

As far as my current progress goes, I am currently just starting Ch. 2. I also know that there are 4 different "paths" the game automatically chooses for you which affect which Einherjar you recruit, which dungeons you visit, the order of trips to the Cave of Oblivion, and so on. A-B-C-D basically. For my playthrough I was given path A which I actually prefer as its the only path where you visit the Cave of Oblivion in numerical order....(1,2,3,4 etc...) so I feel that gives me an advantage as I read in other orders B for example gives you CoB #3 for the end of Ch. 1 which would be almost impossible to traverse through due to the monsters being much much much stronger/higher leveled than what you would be at that early stage of the game.

As I said I am currently at the beginning of Chapter 2. I recruited both Einherjar you can get in that Chapter. (I got Lawfer and Nanami). [FYI, I left Nanami's name out of my differences list as her name is the same in the japanese game so there was no need to list it.] I also spent a lot of time switching items around off and on my older and newer characters so they would be not so weak starting out with me as I just got em, as well as upgrading them as much as I could with using my saved scrolls and such to add magic attacks and skills to my new spellcaster Nanami and my other characters as well as both using my stored CP for skills and the upgrade points I had stored since I started so I could level some people up more for when I start my first dungeon in that chapter. I believe its some Dragoncave or something that you travel far, far down in.

I am going for the A or BEST ending for the game, so I am making sure I clear out every enemy in every dungeon, as well as collect every item in every dungeon and such and so.

I am currently very much enjoying my Japanese Valkyrie Profile and I can say for sure it was the best freebie I ever got from anyone.

Later on I will work on the Dungeons/sending Einherjar and everything else to complete the chapter. Sadly I lost the Dragon Sword as it broke early on in the game that Arngrim got so my battles are much harder now. But that is ok as it makes me have to put more effort into the game/battles and use more strategy.

Ok, thats it for today. Hope everyone else is enjoying whatever it is they are playing. I have a lot of games in my backlog currently and I am slowly picking up more over time. After VP is finished (depending on if my other package comes by then or not) I will get back into and play through either FFX International or Tales of Destiny Directors Cut as I already started those 2 but didn't get too far yet in either one.

Ok everyone! Hope you all have a great day, enjoy whatever it is you are playing and I look forward to everyone else's updates as well! The rest of mine will be much shorter...sorry it was sooo long.

VP is an amazing freebie.

The path you're on is due to your actions, thankfully the game doesn't choose randomly!

The reason I wanted words like "einjerjar" pronounced correctly because they're words from North mythology, not just nonsense words Tri-Ace made up for the game. Even though VP is pretty liberal with the mythology it's more accurate than most games and really tries hard for a style based on Norse paganism, not just anime drawings and lame references. Hearing Japanese corruptions of the English mispronunciations of ancient Norse words takes me out of it, even if it sounds normal to a Japanese speaker.

So, by Chapter 2, you should have a few characters to work with. What's your battle setup looking like?

Spent all day yesterday playing Ys. Took care of Book I pretty early on, and just couldn't put Book II down. I am currently in the Solomon Shrine, just found the Sacred Cup, but had to stop and get some rest for work. Its weird how different this game feels from the first, while being so similar. Going straight from the first town to the Ruins/Mines was very different than walking into the opn Fields in the first game. The addition of magic has made the bosses almost trivial so far though, which is a bit disappointing. Still, having a balst with it, going to jump back on as soon as I get home.

Since I am at work, I'm playing Sorcery Saga. Got to the boss of Chapter 2... and died... and lost everything. The weapons and armor I've been leveling up for the entire game thus far are gone :( So, time to hit the newbie dungeon a few times, hopefully I can build up something half-decent before taking on the boss again.

So much music in Book II. I love how you start in town (cool chill tunes), walk down to the Ruins (OMG so metal), then down into the purple-walls rooms (weird crazy music), which lead straight to the Mines (creepy atmospheric tunes).

I had to keep stopping and pausing so that I could hear more than the first few seconds of each song! They throw so much badass music at you right off the bat.

Defeated the Tentacles in the basement of Figaro Castle. Oh how I hated that battle years ago.

Final Fantasy X-2: I just got to the "massage the evil lady" mini-game. This game is so much dumb fun that it's really reminding me that I'm really just wasting my time by playing FFXI.
(In FFXI, I spent most of the past three days getting new boots.)

Chest key drop rate (or competition thanks to upgraded ilevel AF) just that bad or what? Last I recall there's a JP midnight rollover to actually get 'em, but otherwise I can't see it taking that long. :?

Ick. Some bad luck right there. That's the most convenient RDM AF to get too. :lol:
