Stopped at the local Savers after work today to see if anything good came in. I just missed out by maybe 10 mins yesterday as one of those damn scanner-resellers was scanning a stack of Mario, Zelda, and other AAA Nintendo games on the Gamecube and checking the value (I was watching him and they were all complete and seemed pristine). I hoped to beat him there today but he was already there so I didn't really bother with the games. His cart was already full of games, DVDs, and books.
I did happen to come across my first thrift store 360. I had ZERO confidence that is was in working condition but it was $20 (no hard drive, controllers, or hook-ups of any kind). I try my best to be proficient in repairing all types of consoles so I figured $20 is worth a trainer piece so I picked it up. To my astonishment, it seems to work just fine. I'm going to let it run for a few hours to see if it red-rings but it's in really nice cosmetic shape. Hopefully it won't die on me. Probably going to re-sell (for a fair price, of course) if it doesn't crap out because I already have 2 and I'm trying to resist the urge to hoard as much as I have been in the last year.
EDIT: After 3 hours of continuous play, no issues. Pretty pleased about this find.

360 Qubed - $3.69 each Gamestop
Bought two copies since so cheap. Actually a multiple store run to get two CIB so decided to keep both! A three game set which has Lumines better known on the PSP and PS2 and Ever Extended though different from the PC version is still pretty good.
Bought for REZ HD which originally was only available as a download purchase. The four Xbox controllers vibration a nice feature, but still like the Dreamcast with MadCatz Vibration Pak for the much better controller shake kicking to the beat. The PS2 with Trance is also pretty good, 360 main benefit is the higher resolution.
Eventually may have to give the Child Eden game a go.

360 Perfect Dark Zero Limited Edition - $1.69 Gamestop
The tin "Metroid Trilogy style" case caught my eye. Including clear plastic Slip Case, bonus DVD and Manual. The clerk pulled another copy from the drawer that was missing the sleeve, but had a nice crisp tin and more importantly all the extra documents of this limited edition including one of the hologram cards. There are supposed to be nine different cards, a random pick of what is sealed in each game. I got number five of the set, a beautiful shiny card. Mix matched all the best pieces of the two copies in the store to get a very pristine game for under two bucks.
Even though the game has average reviews, weird that it is inexpensive compared to Metroid Trilogy. Same beautiful packaging, the game actually plays pretty decent. Like the fish eye claustrophobic effect of the remote robot.

PS3 Journey Collection - $15.00 $10.00 Swap Meet
Talked down to ten bucks, finally get to see what all the excitement is about. It is a beautiful game, but at the end walking into the light, Really? This beautiful game is way too short! Also include two other games; Flow and Flower. All three games seem similiar, the explore the world to discover something.

Xbox Beyond Good Evil - $10.00 BookOff
Have the PS2 version already, really can't tell much difference in graphic level of the Xbox edition. Eventually will get the Gamecube release which might be the best disc based version for the consoles? A very nice game, this title should be in everyone's collection.
Xbox Toe Jam Earl III Mission To Earth - $5.00 Swap Meet
Ooooh yeah a very nice find on the table. This game is so wrong with its stereotyping of old school Rap. Get past this and inside is a I think hidden gem of a game. Collect music notes to convert Earthlings with a Funk Blast, no kidding. Search for presents in the levels to temporarily unlock new capabilities of the your character. Don't like walking around slowly thru a huge level? Slip on the Rocket or Spring Shoes. Or put on the Icarus Wings and fly around all of which changes the platformer around. Eat Sushi to regain your strength and explore at night while all the enemies are snoozing, just watch out for the boogeys. Gaah, I hate the enemy baby randomizing your presents so they are hidden. Jamming to the beat in a simplified "PS1 Bust a Groove style" to funk convert the earthlings a kick! So many different "mini games" built in, very addicting!

DVD Tremors Attack Pack - $5.00 Swap Meet
Cheesy movie pack, Aliens in the desert. Volume one is decent, but then each followup gets worse as the main actors no longer appear. The crappiest is volume four which I have never seen that is set in the past in the 1800s. Ah well, the first two volumes are a worth a popcorn night.
2600 Secret Quest CIB - $11.97 shipped Amazon
I have forgotten about this game since passing up on it at the Swap Meet table some months back. Remembered Nolan Busnell's picture plastered on the cart got my collector curiosity again and also read that it was a halfway decent dungeon explore game. Finally decided to go the Amazon route and scored a sealed copy. Now to bust it open and see if it has the "Shamus" style of gameplay.

Curses! I wish there was some way to get all the missed downloads on older consoles.Sega16 wrote:Aside from the obvious aesthetic improvements, Mission to Earth also benefits from its use of Xbox Live. Three characters and two new levels are available for download (they’re free)

You should have offered a cheaper amount. Some stores have to do inventory on lost/stolen items and then they get rid of it.mas wrote:Even though I did not get it went into a newbury comics that is closing down and looked at the video games and everything in the store is 20% off so a lot of stuff was still there. Found a copy of Mario 25th anniversary for the wii at 30.00. 20% off and its down 24.00. I asked the clerk if they can open it up to see if everything was there and sure enough it was still shrunk wrapped but not the game only the music cdI told the lady that they got robbed because it was only the music cd and no game. So she was going to throw it away and I asked if I can have it and she said no. Oh well in the trash it went. I would have sold it here for real cheap.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
if you take it as a standalone game, it is a soso shooter that has a rocking soundtrack. If you consider it a Perfect Dark game it is tripe.RCBH928 wrote:Is Perfect Dark Zero any good?

i bet they really didn't worry about it too much since the store was going out of business.storino03 wrote:You should have offered a cheaper amount. man, what an asshole. i don't think there's anything wrong with picking games up to re-sell them, but i HATE it when people don't know the value of something as obvious as Mario and Zelda titles. know your market, man.J_Wil wrote: damn scanner-resellers was scanning a stack of Mario, Zelda, and other AAA Nintendo games on the Gamecube and checking the value

I also don't like when people are looking up prices on their phone right in front of whoever is selling. Maybe it's personal opinion but I think it's just rude whether you're planning to resell or not. I have a pretty good feel for more or less what games are worth on a lot of systems just from research, so it's no different than what I'm doing in my head before I buy, but I at least don't stand there basically saying "I'm interested, but hold on I have to make sure I'm going to swindle you here."aaron wrote:man, what an asshole. i don't think there's anything wrong with picking games up to re-sell them, but i HATE it when people don't know the value of something as obvious as Mario and Zelda titles. know your market, man.J_Wil wrote: damn scanner-resellers was scanning a stack of Mario, Zelda, and other AAA Nintendo games on the Gamecube and checking the value

Or, "Hold on, I have to make sure you're not swindling me here."Snatch1414 wrote:I also don't like when people are looking up prices on their phone right in front of whoever is selling. Edit: Obviously J T's description fits the asshole reseller, but don't judge everyone who looks up prices in stores.

Likewise when you work at a store and a customer says "Oh I'll buy it cheaper at XXXX" or "I'll just download it off the internet" right in front of you or where you can hear them in the store.o.pwuaioc wrote:Or, "Hold on, I have to make sure you're not swindling me here."Snatch1414 wrote:I also don't like when people are looking up prices on their phone right in front of whoever is selling.
