In addition to the ones already posted, these 'downgrades' from existing arcade versions were really baffling and predictably were also awful from a control standpoint.

Re: Most bizarre video game ports
well I wasn't looking for an arcade-perfect port considering the hardware. But I thought it was fun. And sometimes "fun" is all I expect from a game.cha cha wrote: I guess if vert screen sync ripping, slowness and infinite combos by doing one string over and over again (jack's df2,1,2-repeat), is your thing? Sure I guessBut yea, as far as entries in the Tekken series goes, this one was most bizarre and off-putting to me.
I guess I can see the port as "bizarre" though, which is of course the point of the thread.
Now if we want to talk really crappy GBA fighting games the conversion begins and ends with Mortal Kombat Advance.

I think Tekken Advance is way better than VF2 Genny.Ack wrote:What about the Sega Genesis port of Virtua Fighter 2?

Yeah, but I bet you loved the Game Boy port of Shaq Fu most of all.

Maybe, but Virtua Fighter 2 (GEN) is a very odd port.noiseredux wrote:I think Tekken Advance is way better than VF2 Genny.Ack wrote:What about the Sega Genesis port of Virtua Fighter 2?

Re: Most bizarre video game ports
What's interesting about Sega (while they still made hardware) is that they ported their games to non-Sega systems that they didn't see as "competition." Their games ended up on all the requisite 8/16-bit computers as well as pre-and-post-Game Gear handhelds (Tiger LCD, R-Zone, Game.com, NGPC).

that PS1 port is actually a port of the 2002 remastered edition for PC. still an awesome game. lost a lot of hours to that one on NES as a kid.prfsnl_gmr wrote:The Three Stooges was released on the Amiga, Commodore 64, and NES in 1987, 1988, and 1989, respectively. It was then ported to the PlayStation...in 2004.

You know, I think a lot of the Game Boy fighting game ports are odd.
Primal Rage:

Killer Instinct(even has a unique border for the Super Game Boy):

Battle Arena Toshinden:

Metal Masters(a 1993 Game Boy port of an Amiga/Atari ST fighting game):

Pit-Fighter(about on par with the SNES port):

And I didn't include the four Mortal Kombat games on the handheld, including the compilation version Mortal Kombat I & II. Also, the Game Boy port of Shaq Fu is actually the most fun in my opinion and features elements such as platforms in stages, making it unique to the SF series.
But perhaps strangest of all Game Boy fighters is the 1998 Japan-only port of Real Bout Fatal Fury Special:
