Then you should have plenty of time to make meaningful posts. Saying you are playing an rpg offers no substance. It would be the same if I got on here and posted "Hello, I am at work today"GazongaJoe wrote:My job consists of sitting by myself for 10 hours a day with very little work. Except those were all excerpts from a post with more content. Pat on the back for successfully using the search function though.dsheinem wrote:Jmustang1968 wrote: It would be the same if I got on here and posted "Hello, I am at work today"Jmustang1968 wrote:I am stuck at work on a day I normally dont.Jmustang1968 wrote:Slow day at workJmustang1968 wrote:Fixed it. Re: RPG Progress Report
Not sure what port you're playing (so tell me!) but I find the best strategy with that boss is to walk in a square around the room. Just barely stay ahead of the bats - they will clump up behind you and you can strike when the boss forms. If you run around frantically the bats will do the same and you will take damage.dunpeal2064 wrote:Alright, weekend is finally here, and I have all day to play Ys.
Just got to the end of the Mines in Book I. I forgot how nasty the boss is here! If he feels like it, he'll just fly around in bat form and almost never become vulnerable to damage, and there are some spreads where it feels impossible to not take damage.

Well that one is funny. That short attention span from all that thinking all day during your office hours at fog and flame.

I'm playing the Turbo port (with the volume cranked of course)BoneSnapDeez wrote:

After about a dozen tries I did manage to take him down. He is pretty manageable if you leave space to move down, but if you pull him to the bottom, the bats seems to just spread out. Once I got the pattern down, it was just a mater of not killing myself trying to attack him
Now in the Darm Tower!

What don't you like about it? To me, it actually reminds me of Dark Souls a bit. Maybe you're not a fan of that style, but I quite like it. I've seen people say on other forums that the games cannot be compared, but I feel like there is some familiarity to the combat.
Can't say that I've died anything less than a dozen times or so. But quick save makes things not too frustrating. Just gotta use my potions wisely since there are no standard in combat potions like those available in most RPGs.
I think one-on-one with an enemy you're fine. But anything in groups is awful. Even weaker enemies seem to be able to nip in and drain your health and, crucially, stagger you too quickly and Geralt's block is a bit useless.
It was also a bit of a bad decision to make you unlock things like the ability to not take massive damage when attacked from behind and to actually cut through more than one enemy at once. The mechanics are at odds with the world building and took me out of the experience.
Contrasted with Dark Souls, yes you can be ganged up on by enemies and you will take damage, but it'll be because of your own lack of skill or understanding, not because the developers artificially handicapped you. And your sword will chop anything in front of you not just the enemy highlighted.
The iron sword/silver sword thing is daft as well. Without wanting to echo Zero Punctuation, but surely, the silver sword can cover for both? In say Morrowind, a silver sword will suffice to attack all manner of creatures, the pay off is that they're less abundant and more expensive than regular swords.
