RPG Progress Report
Re: RPG Progress Report
About 6 hours in on The Witcher 2 now. Enjoying it very much.
Just defeated the Kayran. Probably could be moving through the game at a faster pace, but I don't mind taking my time with this one.

Witcher 2 is excellent. Looking forward to 3 and hoping they tighten up the combat a little more.ZenErik wrote:About 6 hours in on The Witcher 2 now. Enjoying it very much.Just defeated the Kayran. Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Hmm. You're making a convincing argument, though I still admit to being put off by the games structure. It is at the very least a cheap game to come across so, maybe, in the future I might give it a whirl.pierrot wrote:Only really because it drastically changed the tenor compared to earlier installments in the series. It's the only BoF game to really attempt innovating, and I personally feel it succeeded, unquestionably. It's also one of the more challenging (if not one of the most challenging) RPGs of the 5th-8th gen. The gameplay is a great blend of RPG mechanics, with some design choices that recall classic Capcom survival horror, which marries perfectly with the setting, and the story in general.Sload Soap wrote:I've been lead to believe that Dragon Quarter is a very divisive with some mechanics that people loathe.
A lot of people bemoan the SOL system and the D-counter: The former is in the game expressly to add content/re-playability (of which DQ has plenty) and make an otherwise impossible game for some much more manageable. The D-counter is a handicap, plain and simple. It can be the player's best friend in a pinch, and his worst enemy when used as a crutch.
Considering that the SOL system is pretty much the basis for what appears to be a very popular game in Rogue Legacy, I have to question DQ's lack of success; but what has been fairly clear to me is that roughly 2/3 of people who play Dragon Quarter will give up on it too early because of its challenge, and the other 1/3 will generally be better people for the experience.
I may be aggrandizing slightly, but the point remains that anyone who enjoys strategic RPG battles with a smattering of survival gameplay, a tremendous musical score by Sakimoto Hitoshi, excellent replay value in the Ant Colony/Kokon Horay/D-rank/Locked areas/SOL scenarios, and one of the most inspired stories the JRPG genre has to offer, owes it to himself to pick up BoF Dragon Quarter. None of these aspects can be attributed to any of the other BoF games. (Or most other JRPGs.)
That said, BoF III is all right.
I hope they scrap the combat from Witcher 2 and start again. Some of the worst combat I dealt with this gen and nearly ruined an excellent game.Stark wrote: Witcher 2 is excellent. Looking forward to 3 and hoping they tighten up the combat a little more.

What don't you like about it? To me, it actually reminds me of Dark Souls a bit. Maybe you're not a fan of that style, but I quite like it. I've seen people say on other forums that the games cannot be compared, but I feel like there is some familiarity to the combat.Sload Soap wrote:

Can't say that I've died anything less than a dozen times or so. But quick save makes things not too frustrating. Just gotta use my potions wisely since there are no standard in combat potions like those available in most RPGs.

My job consists of sitting by myself for 10 hours a day with very little work. I've been reading this forum for months and thought I'd contribute as pointless my posts are.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Alright, weekend is finally here, and I have all day to play Ys.
Just got to the end of the Mines in Book I. I forgot how nasty the boss is here! If he feels like it, he'll just fly around in bat form and almost never become vulnerable to damage, and there are some spreads where it feels impossible to not take damage.

The point was less 'stop posting' and more 'why contribute pointless posts when you could have, y'know, told us what the game was you were playing and given us a few brief thoughts about it' - something with some actual substance requiring minimum extra effort.
This:
is better than this:I'm 10 hours into Final Fantasy VII. I've just recruited a new character at Gold Saucer, but I'm not a big fan of them. The game is OK, but I feel it's a bit overrated and yet to show me why it's so well loved

Well, feel free to elaborate more. I can relate with being paid to do almost nothing sometimes. I try to keep myself occupied, but this week has been dead w/ regards to repairs. So I've been active on forums and news site a lot more than usual.GazongaJoe wrote:My job consists of sitting by myself for 10 hours a day with very little work.
