I am absolutely ecstatic the Rams beat down the Saints. Now the Panthers just need to win out and they'll be the 2 seed in the NFC.

Honestly, I think the Falcons game in Atlanta will be a bigger challenge than New Orleans in Carolina.

Shockingly, yahoo has put out a few decent articles today:

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutd ... --nfl.html

Well of course Buck is polarizing as he either hates your team or loves them. You can tell who he is rooting for from the start of the game which I think is a journalist no-no, but people seem to look past that.

But I'm an old fashioned kind of guy. I like to turn off the tv volume and put on the radio broadcast while watching games. I also learned at a young age that pre and post game shows are terrible. An hour of knuckleheads telling you the schedule and who is injured.

The pre and post game shows are a mixed bag. They stuff too many guys on some of the shows that they constantly talk over each other. There can be some good discussion and analysis though.

I think the commentators are mostly bad. Sunday night Michaels and Collinsworth both had rules errors. Michaels kept saying they avoided penalty for the illegal receiver touching the ball (a lineman) which he was legal since the ball was tipped. It just hit the ground is all. They followed it up a few players later on the almost safety saying if any part of the ball crosses the line it is a safety. When in fact if any part of the ball is outside the end zone and in the field of play it is not a safety. Those just bugged me the other night.

My big issue is that I want actual journalists discussing the games, not overly concussed ex-jocks. Keyshawn Johnson can barely read the teleprompter and every so often you can see Terry Bradshaw lip someone's lines with them (aka the Will Smith effect).

But I do enjoy shows that most sports enthusiasts hate such as ATH and PTI. I also liked Dennis Miller as a color commentator.

Speaking of Sunday night football and pregame shows, the Sunday night one has to be the worst. They stuff more guys on that show than all the rest and it's just for one game and then they send Costas out to every game to talk for 5 minutes at halftime like he's super important or something.

A friend of mine wants the Cardinals to win over the Seahawks this Sunday, but I don't see that happening with the final two games being at CenturyLink.

I like football players and coaches in the show discussing as they actually played the sport and know whats going on. I find journalists often severely lacking in football knowledge and are waay too over reactionary. They just need to pick better guys of the football guys to do the shows.

The shows are meh. Guys talking over each other and yelling at each other. It's sports journalism gameshow garbage.

I could watch Gruden criticize ads from a phone book. He and Madden have always captured my attention and admiration.

Part of this is a bit personal as I have a pal who writes for the www.reflector.com and covers ECU football. His Father was the main writer for the Philly Flyers and he decided to follow in his Father's footsteps. I see how hard he and his cronies work how little they are paid, and when I see an ex-jock who just babbles on and on without any insight I can't help but think "There are thousands, thousands of sports journalists who would be such a better fit".

I just hate to see some clown on tv who doesn't bring anything to the table who is already rich and doesn't need the job taking it away from someone who studied their entire life to become a broadcaster.
