after reading some comments on that article page - dont do this anyone! Apparently it will format your HDD, and only nVidea cards are supported. That's probably why SteamOS isn't ready for mainstream distribution yet!

If you want to toy with Linux, I'd recommend Mint.
Funny enough, I downloaded Mint about a week ago... I have an old laptop running XP that I use as sort of a backup. Say I'm playing a PC game on my desktop, but I want to have music playing or a video streaming, or just want to leave the forum up or something, y'know? Anyway, I thought it might speed the laptop up to throw a Linux distro on there and after doing some reading I felt like Mint looked awesome. But I couldn't get it to install. It just kept hanging on the Mint bootscreen. I'm thinking that maybe I was supposed to download the 32-bit version instead of the 64-bit? I haven't had time to try downloading and burning that version yet...
I tried Linux before, but I do not see an advantage for it over the traditional mac and Windows OS especially when you know they are more user friendly and have better support.
None the less, I am happy to know the free alternative exists and I think its extremely beneficial to people with bigger organisations and educational institutes . I am also very thankful there are people out there who devote their time to give out free software, I do not know who they are but thank you. Software was such a huge issue back in the late 90's & early 2000's as internet speed was slow and software prices was way high. Thankfully today most software is free and apps for specific purpose (Like video editing) are to pay for . Who remembers when web browsers were sold?
