1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die

It'd be a lot of work to eliminate bias (positive or negative) from such a list, not to mention the sheer volume of titles to cover. Which is why developing criteria should be the paramount topic of discussion, imo, to keep this thread alive and interesting.

I'm not really abandoning the thread ... Just not gonna participate in it until it's back on track.

I still think this is a tedious and likely fruitless endeavor and really don't see the point.

It is super tedious and I don't think anyone involved would be doing it for any other reason than to try and improve upon previous methods used to create large lists. (Which have been lazy, bias, nonacademic and absolute shit up to this point).

I think if you look at it in a general fashion, it can be viewed as "fruitless" and "pointless", which a hastily put together, shitty, bias list would certainly be. Just like the one in the OP.

However, I also think that the "fun" to be had here, is:
-Developing a better criteria, that can approach 'generally' acceptable levels across the board.
-Improvement of research methods for all involved.
-(Semi)Intelligent discussion to be had during development of criteria and research.
-Some good debates that move beyond "Game X is better than Game Y, because I have <insert pretentious bias here>!"
-Education for all involved on the difficulty of simply finding & defining universally(or close to) accepted criteria for such a list.

I like just thinking about all the variables we have to wade through in SIMPLY DETERMINING what factors hold the most weight when discussing what can be truly considered a good game and why it deserves to be part of an 'essentials' list for any gamer's lifetime.

So while the end goal is almost certainly unattainable through casual forum-based discussion means, there is fun to be had, if we get the right peeps in here steering the ship...

A lot of 'ifs' though... I simply am waiting to see if certain 'ifs' are fulfilled for me to keep interest.

I have to agree with Queso. I don't mean to offend, but the more this is discussed, the more pedantic and superfluous an exercise it appears.

I don't know about pedantic since we are trying to improve formula/criteria for the development of a list, but I certainly have my doubts anything will truly come out of this.

Whats a few seconds of typing to take a chance on the spark of creative thinking spurring on a worthwhile discussion, though?

Not necessarily. if anyone here had the chutzpah to do it, I'd be entertained by any member's list of 1001 games..., whether I agreed with it or not.
