I hate Smash as much as the next guy (hate even more that fanboys consider it a real fighting game to be measured against the greats of all time, but i don't wanna go down that rabbit hole anymore.)
But to not consider it for a 'definitive' N64 title because you have personal bias against it, is silly. Measured against other party-style brawlers out there, especially at the time it was released, it clearly stands head and shoulders above the rest AND pleased nintendo's mass of rabid fanboys who wanted to see their fave characters square off against each other, all at the same time.

Yeah I am the opposite. I usually get bored and dont care for most fighters, but Smash was a blast with a group of friends. Solo though... meh.

I never said my list was definitive. I just gave my own personal list of great N64 games worth owning.

My bad, I was caught up with 'definitive' lists in that 1001 games thread and took yours as another example of such. But yea, despite not liking Smash, I'd include it on any N64 that list essential titles for a system.

I think it's a great party game and is designed to be such...

...I was referring to the hardcore smash players that take it seriously and call it a real 'fighting game' with deep and advanced tech, better than other FGs for 1v1 matches... in which, of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions on, but I hate when they talk that mess like their opinions are fact. Especially to other FG communities... Lots of annoying uneducated players talk mess and blatant nintendo fanboyisms ensue.
