Today at work a co worker who knows that I know a lot bout retro video games tells me he wants to start collecting a Nintendo brand console. He wants to go for now just one console. At first he wanted a Saturn but I told him that a Saturn is expensive and there are never any games in our area except for ebay. Anyways I broke it down to him and this is what I said.
The nes is fun but all the games is getting up there in price and need to find a refurb nes and the good games like Zelda and mega man's are going up to 15.00 and up. You could find stuff at thrift stores but in our area we never see anything.
Snes is a great console. But that system is getting too expensive also. The games he wants is all the snes classics and there going to cost him.
I told him that the most fun I got collecting was the Gameboy. I told dan that if he gets a gba sp he will have the library of gba, gbc, and gb. A lot of ports from the snes and nes are on the Gameboy line and it's portable and wont cost you as much as the nes and snes library. Plus you can find games easier and hell you can even get the original Gameboy systems from gba to the original brick fairly cheap.
I think I gave him some good advice on this. I also suggested that he should look into a sega genesis. I'm going back to work on Tuesday and ill be working with him so any other pointers I should give him let me know. Thanks
I also was going to tell him about the turbografx 16 but I don't think he can afford that with a part time job. lol
Giving someone advice on collecting.

If he wants to collect for a great console with a plethora of really cheap and fantastic games then he needs a Genesis.

A good second choice is the original xbox. Also Sega give a good support to that console.BoneSnapDeez wrote:If he wants to collect for a great console with a plethora of really cheap and fantastic games then he needs a Genesis.
I think the N64 is still on the cheap side, comparing to the snes and nes, but is gettin up in value.

Bonesnap, I mentioned the genesis to him and he replied " I don't like sonic games" I told him to youtube some genesis games and tell me on Tuesday what he thinks. But for now he wants just a Nintendo brand system.BoneSnapDeez wrote:If he wants to collect for a great console with a plethora of really cheap and fantastic games then he needs a Genesis.

Dan already has the n64, ps2, and the Xbox. He wants to go for a 8-16 bit Nintendo system that's why I told him about the gba plus he has a GameCube i sold him. I will tell him to get a gameboy player. I forgot about that.Damm64 wrote:A good second choice is the original xbox. 1. ask anyone other than mas
2. if worried about cost, avoid Nintendo libraries

It was meant as good-natured ribbing, but if you actually don't get it, dunno what to say.

I'm sorry on that. At the time you posted that my dog took a dump on the bathroom floor and I stepped in it and I was a little pissed off so I was just mad. But thanks for the rib.
