You and I, who remember the game's release and have read up on it, aren't the target audience. A 15 year old kid who is just getting into gaming history? They watch videos about everything, so why should game history be any different?brunoafh wrote:It is truly beyond me what would urge someone to make a 30+ minute video about a game that has probably been reviewed a thousand times, talking about the same old stuff that everyone has discussed to death already for 15 years. To top it off, the only people that would bother watching such a long and self gratuitous video about the game, are people that already know everything about the game and what he's talking about in the first place, which makes even less sense to me. People new to the game that want a review before checking it out sure as hell aren't going to watch some guy drone on for 30 minutes about it.AppleQueso wrote:

But that isn't the reviewer's job, is it?
Thumb down = This sucks ...so basically, the thing you said you didn't like about game review videos.
As far as (good) reviews of games, the question is "should you play this?" Time and money have nothing to do with it. The reviewer doesn't know if you're going to buy it when it's $60 day one or if it's used for $3. So how can he tell you if it's worth your money? He doesn't know if you're a 15-year old on Summer vacation or a salesman working 60 hrs a week with a lot less time for gaming. How would he know if it's worth your time?
At any rate, the thing I find silliest is just that you have no problem generalizing that any/all videos related to games are crap and we're better off without them. You don't like the reviews? Fine. Maybe some people have discovered favorite games thanks to them though. You don't like the characters? Well actually you do like Keith Apicary, so... "Let's Plays" do nothing for you?" That's fine, but as others have pointed out they can be a good resource for various reasons be it help, history, comparison of ports, and so on. So ultimately you're saying "eh, I saw a couple reviews I thought were crappy, so I'm ok with the idea that there would be no video game related videos on Youtube." Which is strangely dismissive considering you're a fan of this hobby.

I'd put money down that he didn't make that video with the cause of video game history preservation in mind. Let's hope not anyway, he thinks he MSX2 is "a pretty small console".dsheinem wrote:You and I, who remember the game's release and have read up on it, aren't the target audience. Besides, pretty much everything he is saying can be ascertained by a 15 year old kid with something that will run the game and internet access. He's not talking about the Dead Sea Scrolls or teaching Mandarin here. Knowing what Metal Gear Solid is and how it's relevant is a pretty easy thing to accomplish without having to watch a critical analysis. Long videos about topics that have yet to be covered much, and/or are more obscure, or difficult to understand (modding, region specific titles, etc), I could understand more.

Ah, i see that you never have edited a video in your life. Getting the right set it for audio video and the putting togheter eveything is time consuming. I've done it for crappy 5 minute videos on the school and a 5 minute video took me hours to make it look somewhat decent.Retrogamer0001 wrote:Sorry, I'll never consider reviewing video games on Youtube to be "work" - to me, it falls into the category of "profitable hobby". I'm sure there is a certain amount of effort that goes into producing videos (for a few people, not all, considering some folks only put out a new video once a month) but for the most part, this isn't a situation where people are working 40 hours a week, or even 40 a month.
I suggest Luke to watch someone else besides AVGN or someone out of "the mos popular on youtube"

Not game reviews but they analize the game mechanics of games and how they work :

To me the job of the reviewer is to explain how is the game, how it controls, it is repetitive, it is a glitchy mess, and i use the footage and his commentaries to verify if the game is worth buying. There are lots of times where i disagree with the reviews but that thends to happen all the time in real life.
Now i'm going to check this video.AppleQueso wrote:

"Thumbs Down" was a nod to Roger Ebert. Someone who actually reviewed things.noiseredux wrote:Luke wrote:Thumb down.

Re: Classic Game Room Leaving YouTube
So...you just proved my point? If the average game review video is, let's say, twelve minutes long, and it took you a few hours to do a five-minute clip (let's say six hours to be generous), then it should take around fourteen hours to complete a game review? Now, let's say a Youtuber completes two videos a month at twelve minutes each: total time would be twenty-eight hours a month. That's a job to you? Seven hours a week? Keep in mind that most of these guys are quite good at editing and many videos aren't even twelve minutes long, so the time would likely be even shorter.Damm64 wrote:Ah, i see that you never have edited a video in your life. CGR loves Technosoft and shmups.
And that voice.
Cool guy.
His oldest videos crack me up the most because they are 110% like a lot of projects I did in high school in a lot of my tech classes, so I always had a bit of a appreciation for him with that connection.
