Falcom's Lord Monarch - available in English for free

Post by BoneSnapDeez »

File this under "really old news that I just found out about."

Lord Monarch - part 7 of the Dragon Slayer series (which also includes Faxanadu, Legacy of the Wizard, Sorcerian, and The Legend of Heroes) has a free English version available for download - it's buried in the Falcom website.

http://www.falcom.co.jp/monarch/index_e.html

This is the only way to play it in English - all console versions (Super Famicom, Mega Drive, PSX) are Japanese and there are no translation patches.

System requirements are incredibly low - this should work on any PC with Windows 95 and up.

It's a great strategy RPG. Enjoy!

I dunno, 8MB of RAM is kind of steep.

Yeah I had to upgrade my Amstrad to get it to run properly.

OH MAN total flashback - I think I remember downloading this years and years ago but never playing it.
Didn't Falcom release a bunch of their old games in English? Some Google searching reveals Vantage Master but I could have sworn there were others.

SO MANY GAMES I WANT TO PLAY!

Hmm
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Yup. Vantage Master is another great one, and with a similar release - the only English version is a PC download.

I can't recall any other ones...

This is awesome, other companies should follow and release some games for free like this.

Faxandu was one of my favorite NES games as a kid. I was scared of it, but also enthralled. I never could beat it though.

Faxanadu isn't too bad - try it again sometime. Snag some maps or whatever from the internet.

Legacy of the Wizard is still shockingly hard regardless.
